White House Tallies $10 Billion Saved by Repeal of Regulations

https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-04-05/white-house-tallies-10-billion-saved-by-repeal-of-regulations

The White House estimates it will save $10 billion over 20 years by having rescinded 11 Obama-era regulations under a relatively obscure 1996 law that lets Congress fast-track repeal legislation with a simple majority.

The window to invoke the Congressional Review Act is April 28 and the Trump administration is hopeful that several other measures will pass both houses of Congress and reach the president’s desk before that date, Marc Short, White House director of legislative affairs, told reporters Wednesday.

Private payrolls grew 263K in March vs. 185K est.

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/05/private-payrolls-grew-263k-in-march-vs--185k-est-:-adp.html

The year's fast start for job creation showed no signs of letting up in March as private payrolls saw another big boost, according to a report Wednesday.

Companies added 263,000 jobs for the month, ADP and Moody's Analytics said. That was well above the 185,000 expected from economists surveyed by Reuters and also better than the 245,000 reported for February.

US weekly jobless claims total 234,000 vs 250,000 estimate

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/06/us-weekly-jobless-claims-apr-1-2017.html

New applications for U.S. unemployment benefits recorded their biggest drop in nearly two years last week, pointing to a further tightening in the labor market.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits declined 25,000 to a seasonally adjusted 234,000 for the week ended April 1, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The drop was the largest since the week ending April 25, 2015.

The prior week's data was revised to show 1,000 more applications received than previously reported.

Claims have now been below 300,000, a threshold associated with a healthy labor market for 109 straight weeks. That is the longest stretch since 1970 when the labor market was smaller.

The labor market is currently near full employment.

In sure he would say that it's good for the country and it shows how good our economy has been for over 2 years.

109 weeks is nothing to sneeze at.

LA TIMES: Mexican official arrested for drug trafficking said his state would never be home to narcos

http://archive.is/gFdVP#selection-95.0-95.91

He sought to cut an image as a fearless anti-crime crusader in his home state of Nayarit, in western Mexico.
Edgar Veytia — the state’s attorney general, a lawyer and a survivor of a 2011 assassination attempt linked to traffickers — once declared: “Nayarit is not fertile ground for law-breaking. Here, there is no room for organized crime.”
His purported crime-fighting acumen even led to a corrido, or popular ballad, championing Veytia as the “terror” of criminals and the “lawyer with a pistol on his belt.”

But media reports had hinted of a darker side, linking Veytia to the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel, a bitter rival of the Sinaloa Cartel of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Relatives of “disappeared” victims of the cartel wars complained publicly that the attorney general’s office in Nayarit did little to find their missing loved ones.

Now U.S. authorities say that Veytia’s law-and-order image was a public relations façade concealing his involvement in the nation’s massive illegal drug trade — an allegation that amplified the common belief in Mexico that being a politician is a license to amass clandestine riches.

Veytia, 46, was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border Monday in San Diego on a federal indictment from New York alleging that he has conspired to smuggle heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine to the United States since 2013 — the year he became the top law enforcement official in Nayarit state.

Veytia’s arrest is the just latest sign that official corruption continues to debilitate Mexico's government.

China and the United States 'agree to greater cooperation' in curbing North Korea's nuclear ambitions

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/07/china-united-states-agree-greater-cooperation-curbing-north/

The United States and China will increase their cooperation in convincing North Korea to curb its nuclear ambitions, Rex Tillerson the US secretary of state said on Friday.

The decision follows Xi Jinping, the Chinese president's first state visit to the United States since the take over by the new administration.

Mr Tillerson said on Friday that whilst no specific action had yet been planned, Mr Xi, had agreed the nuclear programme had advanced to a serious stage.

After Xi Leaves U.S., Chinese Media Assail Strike on Syria

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/08/world/asia/china-xi-jinping-president-trump-xinhua.html

BEIJING — With President Xi Jinping safely out of the United States and no longer President Trump’s guest, China’s state-run media on Saturday was free to denounce the missile strike on Syria, which the American president told Mr. Xi about while they were finishing dinner.

Xinhua, the state news agency, on Saturday called the strike the act of a weakened politician who needed to flex his muscles. In an analysis, Xinhua also said Mr. Trump had ordered the strike to distance himself from Syria’s backers in Moscow, to overcome accusations that he was “pro-Russia.”

That unflattering assessment reflected China’s official opposition to military interventions in the affairs of other countries. But it was also a criticism of Mr. Trump himself, who Mr. Xi had hoped was a man China could deal with.

Chinese officials had feared that the two leaders’ 24-hour encounter at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida might be marred by a campaign-style anti-China outburst from Mr. Trump. Instead, it was interrupted by the unexpected missile attack.

China offers concessions to avert trade war with U.S.

http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN17B13R

China will offer the Trump administration better market access for financial sector investments and U.S. beef exports to help avert a trade war, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing officials familiar with the matter.

China is prepared to raise the investment ceiling in the Bilateral Investment treaty and is also willing to end the ban on U.S. beef imports, the newspaper also reported.

"China was prepared to (raise the investment ceilings) in the BIT but those negotiations were put on hold (after Trump's election victory)," the Financial Times also reported citing a Chinese official involved in the talks.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Friday that President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to a new 100-day plan for trade talks on Friday.

The U.S. trade department was not immediately available for comment while the China's ministry of commerce could not be reached for comment.

Toyota makes $1.33 billion investment in Kentucky plant

Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) said it is spending $1.33 billion in its Kentucky plant as part of a plan to invest $10 billion in the United States over the next five years.

The investment in the plant, Toyota's largest, comes amid uncertainty over U.S. President Donald Trump's trade policies that could affect certain Japanese firms' capital expenditure plans.

Trump criticized the automaker earlier this year and said he would impose a hefty fee if it built its Corolla cars for the U.S. market at a plant in Mexico.

Kinda like that $100mil from the EPA that Obama signed RIGHT before he left office that Trump released. It only took him 8 years of doing absolutely nothing on it.

China's Wanhua Chemical to build $1.12 billion plant in Louisiana

http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2017/04/chinas_wanhua_chemical_to_buil.html

A Chinese chemical company has agreed to build a $1.12 billion chemical manufacturing plant in Louisiana after the state's economic development arm promised it a $4.3 million infrastructure grant.

The agreement between Wanhua Chemical Group and Gov. John Bel Edwards' administration caps more than three years of negotiations and marks the second-largest Chinese investment in Louisiana's chemical manufacturing industry. Yuhuang Chemical is developing a $1.85 billion methanol complex in St. James Parish.
