Trump beats promise to cut new refugees, down 66% from Obama
Washington Examiner ^ | July 06, 2018 | Paul Bedard
Posted on 7/6/2018, 10:29:32 AM by GonzoII

The Trump administration beat the president’s goal of trimming new refugee admissions from the 100,000 brought in by former President Obama, slashing the population by 66 percent.

In fact, for the first time, the U.S. resettled fewer refugees than the rest of the world, but still more than another other country.

New data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees showed that the U.S. took in 33,000 refugees last year, down from 97,000 under Obama, who had pushed to raise the ceiling to 110,000.

President Trump vowed to reverse that flow, raising concerns that refugees were not being vetted well by the United Nations. He pushed to cut refugees to 45,000 a year.

Will Trump try to circumvent the law to avoid paying land owners fair value for their property?

The power of eminent domain allows the government to take private land for public purposes only if the government provides fair compensation to the property owner. The process through which the government acquires private property for public benefit is known as condemnation.

One property owner complained that he didn't want a 30 ft wall in his backyard. -Not much of a view.

Trump pardons Oregon cattle ranchers in case that sparked 41-day occupation of wildlife refuge in 2016
President Trump granted pardons to father-and-son cattle ranchers in southeastern Oregon who were sentenced to serve prison time on two separate occasions for the same charges of arson on public lands.

The return to prison of Dwight and Steven Hammond helped spark the 41-day occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in early 2016.

In a statement, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said an “overzealous appeal” of the Hammonds' original sentence during the Obama administration, which sent them back to prison, was “unjust.”

Trump pardons Oregon ranchers at center of 40-day standoff
The Hill ^ | 07/10/18 | Timothy Cama
Posted on 7/10/2018, 10:47:27

President Trump on Tuesday pardoned a pair of Oregon ranchers whose arson conviction became a focus for opponents of federal government land ownership.

Dwight Hammond, 76, and his son Steven, 49, were convicted in 2012 and sent to prison on arson charges. They had set a series of fires on their ranch that spread to federal land.

The Hammonds’ case became the inspiration for the 40-day armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 2016. The organizers wanted to protest federal land ownership.

The Hammonds distanced themselves from the occupiers and didn't endorse the action.

In a statement Tuesday announcing the pardon, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders emphasized uncertainties in the case and the prison terms and fines the Hammonds had already completed.

“The evidence at trial regarding the Hammonds’ responsibility for the fire was conflicting, and the jury acquitted them on most of the charges,” the White House said.

“The Hammonds are devoted family men, respected contributors to their local community, and have widespread support from their neighbors, local law enforcement, and farmers and ranchers across the West. Justice is overdue for Dwight and Steven Hammond, both of whom are entirely deserving of these Grants of Executive Clemency.”

Trump says solution for illegal migrant families is 'don't come to our country'
The Washington Times ^ | Tuesday, July 10, 2018 | Dave Boyer
Posted on 7/10/2018, 10:22:34 AM by E. Pluribus Unum

President Trump warned migrant families Tuesday that the best way to prevent losing their children is “don’t come to our country illegally.”

“I have a solution — tell people not to come to our country illegally,” Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House. “That’s the solution. Don’t come to our country illegally. Come like other people do. Come legally.”

He was responding to a question about how the government will reunite about 3,000 illegal immigrant children who were separated from their families at the southern border.

“We have laws, we have borders. Don’t come to our country illegally. It’s not a good thing,” Mr. Trump said.

he White House announced on Monday the selection of Brett Kavanaugh as the much-anticipated pick to replace Kennedy on the Supreme Court. Before the pick, dozens of members of the WH press corps gathered outside the press briefing room to wait to be ushered in to the East Wing where the announcement would be made.

During the Gorsuch pick, reporters had been walked through the front colonnade of the mansion. This pick was different. The large gaggle of reporters were walked through the bowels of the service area, past some recycling and trash compactors and directly past Hillary Clinton’s portrait hanging in the White House first floor hallway.

He's in good shape.  But he was a compromise in exchange for Trump nominating someone the Hawaii Democrat Senators wanted.

Trump Is Cutting Off Big Labor From Skimming Americans’ Medicaid Payments And Unions Are Furious
The Daily Caller ^ | 07/10/2018 | Tim Pearce
Posted on 7/11/2018, 3:13:02 PM by detective

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is blistering at a proposed regulation that would prevent the union from siphoning fees from American workers’ Medicaid payments.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a proposed rule Tuesday that would require Medicaid payments to go directly to healthcare workers, ending a 2014 Obama-era rule that let third parties, such as unions and insurance companies, skim off a share of the paycheck before the worker saw any of it.

The SEIU, one of the largest public-sector unions in the U.S., referred to the proposed rule “as part of the [Trump] administration’s broad, coordinated attack against working people.”

Trump is the first President to accept the invitation to meet with Kim Jong Un. Clinton, Bush, and Obama, were also invited during their presidencies and declined the invitations. So yes, he did more. It is early on and anything is possible.

President Trump's personal driver for 25 years sues for unpaid overtime wages

Noel Cintron, the chauffeur for Trump and his family for more than 25 years, alleged in a lawsuit filed Monday that Trump failed to give him required overtime pay and raised his salary only twice since 2003, when he was paid $62,700. His salary was raised to $68,000 in 2006.

The final increase, a $7,000 raise to $75,000 annually, was granted only because the ex-driver "was induced to surrender his health benefits obtained through Trump," the lawsuit alleged. The move saved Trump nearly $18,000 in health insurance premiums, Cintron charged.

The media is all over this story.

American manufacturers grew in June at the fastest pace in four months, but they’re running into trouble getting supplies delivered on time owing to transportation bottlenecks.

The Institute for Supply Management said its manufacturing index rose to 60.2% last month from 58.7% in May.

February the index hit a 14-year high.

Readings over 50% indicate more companies are expanding instead of shrinking.

The factory index climbed 1.5 points to 60.2, maching the second-highest since 2004

The supplier deliveries gauge jumped 6.2 points to 68.2, the second- highest since April 1979.

The subindex shows lead times increasing as producers have trouble meeting demand.
