President Donald Trump has removed State Department Inspector General Steve Linick and replaced him with an ally of Vice President Mike Pence — the latest in a series of moves against independent government watchdogs in recent months.
Trump informed Congress of his intent to oust Linick, a Justice Department veteran appointed to the role in 2013 by then President Barack Obama, in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Friday night.

Two sources familiar with Linick’s ouster told the DCNF that while they were not certain of the precise reason that the watchdog was fired, he was under investigation last year by the Department of Defense’s inspector general for mishandling sensitive material.

Linick attempted to play a role in the impeachment of President Donald Trump last year by approaching Congress with information that he appeared to think was relevant—it was not.

Roll Call reported that lawmakers said that Linick delivered a dossier to them of unknown origins that was essentially filled with conspiracy theories.

“Good riddance. This guy was the Peter Strzok of the State Department.”

Many of those who feigned outrage over the move tried to claim that this was Trump’s way of avoiding accountability, yet they completely ignored the fact that the administration reportedly already has someone lined up to take the job.

President Donald Trump just scored a huge victory over his predecessors when it was revealed he had his highest Gallup approval rating on May 13. Trump’s current approval rating is 49 percent, a higher number than four of the last six presidents at this same point during their presidencies.

On his 1,209th day in office, Trump’s approval rating was 49 percent. On Barack Obama’s 1,209th day in the White House, his approval rating was at just 47 percent, while George W. Bush’s was at 46 percent at this day of his in office. Meanwhile, on the 1,209th day of their presidencies, Bill Clinton had a 55% approval rating, George H.W. Bush was at 40%, Ronald Reagan at 52%, and Jimmy Carter at 38%.

Obama, George W. Bush, Clinton, and Reagan were all able to win reelection after having these numbers.
