So why do you do it? You are in your late 50's so obviously you are still trying to convince yourself you are young,virile and relevant. Please don't take that as a derogatory comment but it is the truth. Dieting, drugs, straining the body to the brink of exhaustion is very taxing. Back in the 1950's,60's and 70's as you can remember people didn't act like this. Only today we have so called trainers screaming foul language in a gym believing that its acceptable.
Bodybuilding is a respectable sport when done correctly. It celebrates the human form and the comradery of working out with your peers. Take for example Ballet. Many go to the theater like myself to experience relaxation and to partake in a beautiful form of art. But dancing is filled with backstabbers, drugs and disease. Why ballet or bodybuilding has come to this would take way to long of an explanation. But that does lead us to question IS BODYBUILDING A SPORT OR ART?

I dont kill myself to look as good as I do, its pretty easy, just some moderate training and sensible diet and Im fine.

Training is more akin to a sport but the competing (done right) should be an art form, today, sadly it isnt.

If it is as easy for you as you say then you should be much more forgiving and understanding to the people its not. Ballerinas train anywhere from 5 to 8 hours a day...everyday with no days off. Which leads us to another question about over training, Haha.
Let me ask you a few questions if you would be so kind to answer? Do you have children and what age? Do you own a home and take care of the grounds? Are you married and spend loving/constructive/healthy time with your mate? Do you work a minimum or 40 hours a week?
Do you see where I'm doing there? In my twenties it was a breeze training, getting in shape for a contest. Not so easy for me now as priorities take over.
Posing is an art but today it is riddled with twerking,gyrating, foolish spastic movements. I guess this is the way things progress.

I have created a life for myself so I can spend time with the people i want to and still train when i like...

Here goes my schedule. I wake up at around 4am. I go to the gym and get back home and have breakfast with my family before work and school. I work 8-4:30. Come home and spend time with my kids. Have dinner, help with homework and then I try and stay up and spend quality time with my wife, which usually starts at 8:30pm. I have a 2800sqft home which my wife and I take care of, no maid. I have 4 acres of land which I take care of. Two huge gardens on the property and numerous shrubs that of course need watering, fertilizing and pruning.
My children are in numerous activities. Choir, cheer, dance, bible study and book club. I enjoy being there for my kids cheering them on, supporting them and watching them progress.
Do you see how working out when you are father takes a backseat to everything else? When talking teens/twenty somthings at the gym I always say, "A life for a life", my life I have given up for theirs and I have no problem with it. Why? Because I love watching my children. I love knowing that what I'm doing for them will make their lives easier and in turn will produce a person who is productive for society.
