Nice, man.  I prefer blonder floors as well, in a matte.  What did you use as a finish?  Looks like you kept away from high gloss everywhere.

Are you on a crawlspace/basement or did they have to cut a slab to get gas to your island?

Despite having a lot of windows, my house seems a bit dark inside. Dark floors would make it seem even darker.

The house has a sizeable crawlspace. -No problem with putting the gas line in. There was a smaller island previous to the remodel. It had a Jenn Air electric downdraft cook top. The new popup Cattura downdraft from Best is 600 CFM. The 10" duck work is an installation problem. I'm waiting for 8" ducting so it can be installed. The blower is remotely located to reduce the noise.
