Watch experts of getbig please chime in
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:08:26 PM »
We all know your average getbigger has a few dozen new and vintage swiss timepieces kicking around his collection at any one time. But said getbiggers would never daily wear such valuables especially in times like these with the dindus up in arms.

I'm looking for a clean simple watch, no more than $450 but dead reliable high quality and looks the business. I am a huge submariner fan, but would never spend that kind of money on something I intend to wear every day. Band must be metal, and no stupid bling bling stuff going on with it, just clean and classy look.

Any suggestions?

If you like the sub a Seiko SRP777 is a great alternative in your price range.

Timex ironman for me.  I beat the shit out of mine, and it keeps going.  Got about 5 years on my current one, and got 12 years out of the previous.

I have two Rolex submariners, 16610 and a very old 16613 blue, a 16234 Datejust on jubilee and a 16014 florentine dial Datejust on leather.

I wear my beat to shit seamaster professional 2531.80 90% of the time. They can be had for around 1k and will get looks, respect, and doesn't really break the bank.

For brand new, at your price point I always suggest a nice citizen.

Yeah I've had a couple timex watches and they are garbage plain and simple. I used to be into the G shock's for a while, but they are juvenile to me now. Casio does make some nice watches with great features, but they tend to be too busy for my liking.

I'm actually really liking that rubber strap in the first one. Not a fan of the blue on silver though, looks cheap imo but that could be because the first watch I ever had (and still have somewhere) is a piece of junk 30 dollar timex from fred meyer i got when i was 10 and it had the same look to it..

That's an option I hadn't considered actually. Maybe not right now since I've just started a new job after being out of work for a little bit (hence the budget), but I'll keep an eye on these. Ever since Casino Royale came out I've wanted a Seamaster Planet Ocean (not quite as much as a Submariner though :P )

I have owned a planet ocean, 2500, 42mm pre ceramic.

I loved the way it looked, never wore it.

He wears those stupid 56mm Invictas.

Biggest I have are a pair of 50mm U-Boats (one black with leather strap, 1 stainless with rubber strap).. Bothnswiaa made. That's about as big as is say a watch should go. Ideally I like my 44mm Panerai and 45mm Omega.

I enjoy looking at watches but unless you have a ton of money you can piss away I never understood spending lots of money on several of them let alone one. I'd never go over 250 bucks and that's for a watch I'd only wear on special occasions.  otherwise I wear a 15 dollar plastic piece of shit. it tells the time no differently then any other watch, I never have to adjust it and it doesn't matter if it gets destroyed.  I won't fall for the needless bling trap again and for what? to impress some goof I don't give a fuck about? whatever

That's what most people don't understand about Swiss watches. They hold their value. You spend $5,000 on a car and sell it in two years you're going to get $2,000 out of it maybe. You spend $5,000 on a Rolex Submariner pre-owned stainless steel you sell it in 2 years you're still going to get 4500- $5,000 out of it

i probably go 43mm or so but i got tiny wrists. 44-45 might work depending on watch
