Why do ellipticals get such a bad rap?

For me, they've been incredibly effective for cardio.  I do go pretty intense however-keeping my heartrate at an average of 145-155 bpm.  I don't read, watch tv or other device like so many elliptical users do in the gym.  By the time I've finished, I'm drenched...

There great.... I prefer to do 20mins at around 160/170 and push it..

Sprints every 4th or 5th min till you faint work well too

I also use elliptical but prefer stair machines

The two stairmasters in our gym have been broke for months, I prefer a stairmaster over all cardio equipment

Ellipticals can be a brutal workout. I think the majority of guys just dog the exercise not putting enough resistance on it and deluding them self that they are working as hard as the guys running on the treadmill.

Idk, I don't care what anyone says about them provided they get my heart rate where I want it to be a and my back/joints pain-free and they are one of the few things that do.
