Without wasting time clicking on the link he looks much smaller than a fat Shawn Ray.

Sergio Oliva Jr. harbors a lot of resentment for his dad and his sister. Not the interview I expected.

I always thot the John D Yelp review of quads gym on 3/29/15 concerning Jr. was quite interesting.

I haven't watched this clip yet, but yeah, they must have had a rocky relationship. I was actually considering starting a thread about it a few days ago after I saw this posted on his instagram. I remember a few years ago he did another interview with aaron singerman and I sort of couldn't believe what I was seeing.

This dude is already in his 30's, most top pros have already won shows or O titles by now  ::)

Theres is No resentment towards his father or his spoiled sister, maybe his Dad realized there still is No fucking Money in Bodybuilding just like there was No Money in it in the 1960s, you most likely you will have to work hard with a Full time job and bodybuilding is secondary, so don't count on prize money supplement sponsors, the Weider bros, Fan club $ or anyone else to help keep your bodybuilding dream alive. Sergio Sr. a cop 30 yrs, Ronnie a cop the time he turned pro, Porter Cotrell a Firefighter and many other pros worked careers. I'm sure there are always exceptions
(Dexter, Phil, tier 1 top 5 get paid but that only covers the drug $) but it's not NFL, MLB or NBA $$$ (even that 5'5 140lb. Mayweather get paid Millions, never understood why people want to watch midgits box). Like Dave Paulumbo says "Why are bodybuilders broke?? They are Lazy! Get a job."
Lets hope he sells some Jr. t-shirts and get a decent sponsorship or two with this NY show debut and gets some type of job as well. He seem like pretty Cool dude and think maybe Labrada nutrition kicked his ass to the curb for Hunter's success but probably should have kept him around, so that Sux. I think he will bounce back after the show with good fortune. He also has a family to raise and that makes it even harder dealing with a wife and all stuck in Australia...(LOL call Lee Priest). I'm sure Shawn Ray will invite him over so he can show off his house, cars, trophies and give him some advices! ???

A lot of top pros don't pay for their drugs, "sponsorship" and underground labs provide them, maybe the slin and gh, that's what "gurus" are for

Watched the vid... Laughing at how Shawn and Singerman both try to talk around Sergio's pity party. Not saying that he's not entitled to whatever hard feelings he has towards his father. Seems like he's trying to say there's more to the story that he's not willing to talk about.

Sergio Sr seemed to have possibly been a hard person to be around. And held animosity towards certain people in the industry. And also wanted his son to hit the books and not go into Bodybuilding, and end up like him. He wanted his son to have opportunities that he didn't have, but at the same time, he probably had a temper. Plus, the cultural aspects. He may have been harder on his son, and had expectations for him, and not as hard on his daughter. And Sergio Jr somewhat resented that.
I do think he should have a career/job, and not put all his eggs in one basket. That being said, hope he does well, and it would be cool that Sergio Jr becomes a top Pro, and maybe even eclipsing his father.

I thought Silverman was well-off? Why is he wearing an ill-fitting off the rack suit?

Oliva may not win the NY Pro but he does win the "Winiest Bitch of the Year" award.

He probably had a temper? Why do you think his mother shot his father? She was tired of being beat by Sergio , I'm sure him and his sister had to watch this

Oh, I didn't know Sr was shot by his wife.  :-X In my last post I was actually implying that it sounds like jr is trying to avoid saying that sr was physically abusive.

I was trying to walk around that. And I think that is what Sergio Jr was trying to do. Everybody pumps up his father as this great guy, but he had to live with him.

Willing to bet that Sr was pretty much a dick towards his son. Jr said that his dad went as far as to call the gym he was a member of and get him banned. Sounds like this was early on so his dad surly wouldn't have any notion that his son would try to make a living out of it. If my dad was Mr O and wasn't even willing to show me how to lift I would be resentful too. The kid turned pro without an ounce of help from his dad so I give him credit. Can he win a show? of course he can. His genetics are a lot better than most of the guys up there who are stuffing themselves full of drugs. All he has to do is eat some anabolic chicken and he's in his way.  ;D

Same with Arnold , Everyone pumps him up to be a great guy but if you read enough about him you'll learn he was a total asshole to everyone , stepped over anyone he could to succeed , and this was all before the Maid

He's also a huge Arnold fan, which you'll notice if you follow him on instagram. I always thought that was a pointed jab at his dad.

A poster earlier  mentioned a yelp review from the gym Sergio used to work at. I couldn't resist looking it up, so here's the review:

Quote
Update: Recently a new member, Sergio somebody or other, has joined Quads. This new member, the spoiled son of a famous bodybuilder, has had a few serious meltdowns in front of everyone in the gym. By meltdowns, I mean the sort of behavior you expect from  a 4 year-old throwing a temper tantrum because they couldn't have McDonald's.

That's the type of thing I would probably take with a grain of salt ORDINARILY, but I remember seeing this video from a few months ago where he was training with Regan Grimes, Cody Montgomery and a few others. There's this very brief part of the video when they are getting their post-workout meals and  he appears to be having a heated conversation with two of the girls who work at the restaurant. It's hard to tell what's going on, but it looks like there was maybe a problem with his order and one of the girls tries to calm him down. Like I said, I can't quite tell what is going on, but it's intense enough for Regan to comment "Wow, he's freakin' out."  That little clip gave me the impression that he probably does have a habit of acting like a petulant baby in public.

For anyone that cares to see, here's the clip. Starts at 19:29.

Absolutely , He was actively trying to prevent his son , most likely due to jealously , he was frail & old and a shell of his former self and didn't want his son to look better than him.

His father had a chip on his shoulder because of the sport and the Weiders and lets face it they treated athletes like expendable assets , but Sergio was his own biggest enemy , like his son said , His father NEVER dieted , did cardio , etc , and he wondered why he wasn't beating guys , he relied way to much on his genetics. Like Flex Wheeler , when things are so easy you don't need to try as hard.

I wish the kid luck , he seems like a good dude.

Lots of pain and resentment in that interview.
