It's like the Car Guy or the Sports Guy.  Here we see Comic Book Guy.  People so ill at ease with themselves that they wrap up in a cartoonish identity which affords them security.  Like so many of these desperate souls, his costume is that of Baby Bird Man - cawing for attention and morsels from those around him.
