Currently work as a mechanical engineer working on improvement/modifications and the larger scale jobs/repairs that the breakdown squad are unable to devote enough time to due to keeping the factory going.

Best job was my previous being a self employed builder for 8 or so years, at least untill the later years life was never better, after the recession hit the prices you had to put in was shite and had to work for about a third of the money, customers knew they had the upper hand as work was harder to come but and used this to try and get the job done as cheap as possible as they knew you were after the work. still I mostly greatly regret leaving this to do my current job and miss it greatly, the job was shit for lifting weights though you spent most nights stiff and saw and training weights and intensity of effort usually suffered.

Maybe if you have a passion for the previous industry and theres demand get back into it if you're unhappy now?

I do plan too hopefully in a few years, I'll use this current job with its unlimited amount of available overtime as a means of reducing or hopefully paying off my mortgage to get rid of the worries during quiet periods as that was the one thing that I disliked about it, even when having several months work was lined up I'd still worry that none would come in after that which is a bit daft I know but couldn't help it. I hope it works out as I miss the satisfaction of working for yourself and have never felt quite the same since packing it in

I can totally relate, I currently have been self employed for past two years, although  longer hours and more stress I feel more accomplished and satisfied. I dont think i'll ever embrace working for someone.

It looks like I may have to go back to that as my current business isnt doing good in todays day and age, gotta figure it out!

I agree mate and it's like a massive empty feeling when you loose that sense of accomplishment, I remember about two weeks after starting current job and literally feeling like the world was at an end and questioned what the fuck am I doing and how stupid I had been, by then I'd sold my van and mini digger and hadn't bothered to price any jobs in the last few months as knew I was starting this job and felt trapped.

I hope business gets better for you mate

Despite being in a factory our place was like that untill recently, our team leader (a childhood friend of mine) organised the jobs and we were just left to it, then we got an absolute little mongrel of a maintenace manager, a little fat joe pasquale look and soundalike who has the worst case of weak little man who uses his position to feel big syndrome ever, he's fucking ruined the morale in the place.

Left school at 16, was on benefits for 3 years while I trained at the gym. Joined RAF and stayed there for many years while gaining electrical engineer experience including higher national diploma in electrical engineering. Left RAF and did masters degree in electrical engineering as a 30+ guy at University while working as a bouncer in Glasgow.   Started own hazardous area control systems business and eventually sold it for a few million a few years back.

The athletic wear more training apparel for the field, court, track, etc or fitness wear will have a more beach/surfer theme and then a and older meathead-type of theme. Can't give the brand names until all of my trademarks are approved. Our MPF brand sells pretty well now with the hoodies, cotton and dry-fit tee shirts.

You got a webshop for MPF clothes? I will buy and wear it like some freemasons code and wait until a fellow getbigger reveals himself to me on the streets.

But you're fine now....life goes on perhaps...human nature we always find ways to survive and also find ways to complain and feel unaccomplished, I Hate the feeling, but i try looking at what i do have and not the negatives.

As for the business, I think im going to shut down the store i operate, retail is a tough game.  My wife still has 2 stores, hopefully she can keep that going.  But i need to figure out something else, and working for someone else im not looking for to it :(

I lived off benefits back in the 1970's. Around $30 a week but I still stayed at home then. In my 50's I have assets of more than $10 million and more money than I can spend due to the dividends from my former company. I hope this helps.
