Vince is asking about a 30 year old car with a broken odometer for 1500.

1500 shouldn't ruin him if its junk but why do you think he should buy it? How much life is left in this car?

Fill in the blanks bro.

Vince you're going to buy a car that needs to be detailed? That's the first step of selling, if the car isn't clean it's safe to assume it isn't taken care of mechanically either. Your post is confusing.

I wasn't criticising anybody who posted their opinion without experience with the particular car.  Just pointing out that nobody who has had the car or knows someone who has had it, is saying don't do it.  Quite the opposite.

Would I buy it?  Of course not.  Like most people, I'd overpay to minimise risk.

I know someone who had this car when it was new.

My Brother in law had an older BMW he says was the worst car he ever owned and he used to have an early eighties Mustang  :-X

One thing nobody's mentioned is the automatic transmission.  What if that goes out two weeks after Vince buys it.  That could be $2000 easy for a rebuilt.

I am not too sure why everyone is questioning Goodrum.

Every business venture he has undertaken has flourished.

Trust that he knows what he is doing.

LOL. Remember the cheap premises he was going to rent that had spider webs and a carpet that smelled? The rent was dirt cheap. He never opened a studio there.
He thought people on Getbig would be impressed that he spotted this bargain. Ditto for the BMW. He won't buy it. He bullshits all day and night!

This is a good example of false advices given by a hater.

It positively wreaks of falsification and fabrication.

I believe there may have been some fermentation in there, too.

After reading this thread, it occurs to me that all the people who say "don't do it" appear to have no direct experience with this car.

I've owned many BMWs.

People who are shopping for $1,500 BMWs can't afford to operate or repair said $1,500 BMWs.

Just more Melvin Goodrum bullshit to try to impress Vissy.

I used to have an 86 325i with manual transmission. I was a good car but developed some problems with the wiring. Used to burn brake lights once a week. I think there was a issue with the wiring harness rubbing against the chassis and wire insulation being rubbed through and grounding out.
It was a nice car though and I only sold it because a friend of mine kept making me offered to buy it, when he offered more than I paid I took the money.
The car has a computer by the way and I had to replace it once. I took it to 3 different places and no one knew how to fix until the last guy I took it to specialized in bmw and was a certified bmw master mechanic. A reconditioned computer was $600 but that was 20 years ago.
These cars are cool but like all old cars need new parts or they are just pieces of shit.
My same mechanic worked on all my other bmws and shit ain't cheap to fix or maintain. He told me replace the brake pads and rotors with cheap Chinese parts and you don't have a bmw any more.
The timing belt and cooling system are the weak points of these cars although after 200000 miles you're probably looking at have the the top end of the motor rebuilt at least.
If you're buying it as a daily driver you will end up spending more than just buying a newer used Honda or mazda.

I don't have a daily driver.  I  alternate vehicles during the week so this would just an extra car.  Having to rely on owning one vehicle is ridiculous because if it breaks down, you are going to be walking or catching the bus

Yea, if you live paycheck-to-paycheck. I thought you were the nig-nog Donald Trump  of the bodybuilding and fitness and nutrition industry? Most people maintain their vehicles and don't drive them to the point where they implode and need to be in a repair shop for a week.

I had a client today worth $38mil. Old white man. Know how many vehicle he has? One a Ford F-150 four-door truck I believe it's a 2013 still. I'll be sure to pass on the advice that he had better buy another vehicle in case one of them breaks down and he's not taking the bus to the gym or p.f.Chang's for a week.

Btw, neet little idea, if only there were an app on your phone that you could type in your location and type in your desired location in a car would come and pick you up and drop you off and money would transfer from your bank account to the driver's bank account like magic and you would avoid all the inconvenience of taking the bus with all the other Nignogs, Mongoloids,$k8r-Bro's, and Dindu's. I mean a thriving entrepreneur like yourself can't be bothered to sit on the same public transportation as a bunch of Wetbacks, Gypsys, and school children.

When I want to go somewhere, I want to walk from my home directly to my vehicle.  I don't want to wait for some Uber driver to come pick me up who could be of any ethnic group, asswipe.

Be sure to pass along the advice to your imaginary friend who makes 38 million....lol.  You are so pathetic that you are not worth debating.  I wish Keith was still around....he was the only person who was of proper competition.

Thanks for the advice.  This is exactly what I was needing to know about this and what to look out for.  I have no issues with getting parts and there's a shitload of BMW mechanics because there's a BMW plant in Greenville.  As much as I like the look of this car, I'm going to likely just going to buy it for immediate sale once I detail and clean it and not keep it around as an extra vehicle.  I think I can work out 900 bucks for it but we'll see but I'm definitely more informed now.  Its still a cool looking car and just has that German flair to it.

Detailing and cleaning is the only thing I'm good at doing when it comes to cars and its very helpful when it comes to selling them as a nice looking car always sells for higher cost than a dirty one.  I only have basic knowledge in engines and mechanics which is why I always have a friend check that out for me or have it inspected by Fisher's Garage.

Getting a car back up and running is no problem and I would make sure there is nothing major with it before buying but the matter I really needed to know would be how much would it be to maintain it.

It's 30 years old.  As some have stated it would be a total money pit.

Might not be what you want to hear but why not lease a vehicle?  I am not a believer in leasing anything but I have seen more than a few people get a good cheap lease on a new vehicle for 36 months or so, and save their money so that when the lease is over they have cash on hand to buy a better used car.

Just making a suggestion.

A classic car. All the millenial car bros will be jealous. Unless you are looking for a handler, and want to auto crossing, a Toyota Camry will do just fine, more reliable and will be probably faster.

I explained it in this thread below:

I would never lease a car because you have to pay collision insurance which negates any savings and since you don't own it, I cannot count it as an asset.  When I buy a car, I want to have the titles the very same day.  My Taurus is very reliable and I've owned it for over 12 years.  Its never left me stranded on the road and its still in great running condition and I intend to keep it.  Its just that I simply wish to have a car that's more flashier and stylish to drive around.  My Jeep is great but its meant for hauling around stuff for activities I do such as estate buys and table displays at flea markets.  Most importantly, I simply don't like the new cars out there right now....they are very bland and have no style or soul.  They have a lot of nice things...computers, heated seats, navigation systems, etc but I simply don't feel anything for them.  They remind me of the book, 1984 if that tells you something.  For me to buy a Camry or an Accord would mean to "blend in" and that's just not me at this point in my life.

Then a newer Ford Taurus, Mazda 6. Or a Volvo XC90 or Volvo station wagon.
That old BMW may be costly, and are there foreign (read "German") garages near you? Ones that don't cost an arm and a leg.
