If you decide to live in Carson in Torrance then you're not in LA and in reality will never barely head into LA.  You'll be stuck in the outer cities

Yes, but you're in L.A. County which covers a huge area. There's Lancaster to the north, Long Beach to the south, Malibu to the west and Pomona to the east. If Torrance is expensive than Santa Monica, Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Sherman Oaks and Encino are out of sight. Finding an affordable place near the beach is impossible.

not in my case. We go in to LA a lot. Go during off times. Explore during Sunday AMs when the highways are nearly empty. Me I try to take my wife w me anytime we go places to catch the commuter lanes. The 110 has changed to that Dunn pay lane tho which we do not do.

Thank you Slik, 2 very good replies. Florida is definitely my 2nd choice. I just want warmth and sand when I am done working.

The problem with moving to Florida is that you're essentially admitting that you're giving up on life.

They don't call it heaven's waiting room for nothing.

so as u know we lost Toyota from a few miles away from here. Cali is super stupid when it comes to how they treat business.

Yeah I knew about it for a few yrs, the new place is nice and modern. I did the tour they gave out a few wks back. lots of cali transplants coming down, paying cash for houses. 300/400k gets u so much, 500k is mansion level, Plano is a very good area to live, always ranked high on living and education

Plano and frisco is developing so fast, every wk I swear there's a new buildings or houses I didn't see the previous wk haha

Some damn good info above.

I have lived in LA on and off  for a few years and here are some of the things I hate and some of the things I love about it

HATES:

I hate the traffic unless I know the shortcuts. I suggest that you find a place to live in an area very close to your workplace with no need to get on any freeway.

I hate earthquakes. (Been in a few too many and THE BIG ONE is way behind schedule, but in its way!)

I hate paying $12 - $18 to watch a movie. Here in Vegas a first run movie in a high class theater is $4. (My family makes them so sometimes I attend premiers as an "invite" and also get a free small box of popcorn and a very small soda but I never get an invite to walk down the red carpet.

LOVES:

The weather.

The great dining pots. Especially  the authentic enchiladas and the strong Margaritas while dining with some of the A-list people who are never bothered by the other diners.

The proximity to the Pacific Ocean. I've been a beach freak all my life...  Fog, rain, or too much sun ...It makes no difference.

Entertainment .... If you don't mind the drive ... It's unlimited. Disney, Knotts, Universal, Mt Snow Skiing, yada, yada, yada.

And the biggest orange tree I've ever seen  in the family backyard that supplies  the neighborhood with the best orange juice ever squeezed.

If you enjoy the outdoors a lot and can put up with the traffic, you will be loving living there.

Great list, thank you. Any chance of being an extra in one of your family's films?  ;D

The 30% salary increase will be eaten up by the difference in the cost of living.

That's what I was thinking. 30% increase isn't much when housing and cost of living is 300% of Midwest prices.

LA is horrendously expensive if you want "the best of things".

We've burned through a huge amount of money since moving here and in the end I think the tax situation will drive me out, which is a shame as on balance you won't find a world class, first world city anywhere with the chilled out beach town vibe that some parts of LA have.

When an area is successful the politicians get greedy and arrogant, and start thinking that no matter how bad they ass rape the people and businesses, they won't leave.  That people are leaving LA to go to places like Arizona, Nevada and Texas speaks volumes.

That is where I would have to change. I tend to always purchase the best of things. That would definitely have to change. How long have you been out there Bob? What area do you live at if you don't mind me asking.
