The traffic is horrendous. It would sometimes take me 1-2 hours to drive 12 miles.

Ha, that's pathetic. They need to bump up their public transport and create bicycle lanes.

They already are.

New York would be a great place if it weren't for, well, you know:

The race/ethnicity of known Robbery suspects is primarily Black (66.2%). Hispanic suspects account for an additional (27.2%) of the suspect population. White suspects account for (4.2%) of all Robbery suspects while Asian /Pacific Islanders accounted for (2.0%) of known Robbery suspects.

That is where I would have to change. I tend to always purchase the best of things. That would definitely have to change. How long have you been out there Bob? What area do you live at if you don't mind me asking.

7 months and I live in the Palisades in a house that's too big for us.

My wife spends over a grand a week at Gelson's and these days that's hardly any food for me as I eat like a woman and get my red meat ordered online (wild meat).

When an area is successful the politicians get greedy and arrogant, and start thinking that no matter how bad they ass rape the people and businesses, they won't leave.  That people are leaving LA to go to places like Arizona, Nevada and Texas speaks volumes.

I need to find somewhere with sun, no humidity, no bugs, and low taxes.

GYM*RAT,  I get asked that question more than I hear, "That you for your service!"

None of the family members are agents and they all abide strictly by the rules and usually only bring other family members into the movie biz (temporarily)  if the director says something like. "Do you have a family member who can do this  ........?"

And that is not a frequent request.

But both Rich Piana and Orvile Burke have played small roles in the past Planet of the Apes series (without my assistance) and I doubt that they had agents, so it is possible to get minor roles if you are in the right place at the right time.

But absolutely no one would recommend anyone that they did not know personally because if that person screwed up on the set or simply did not show up on time ..... it would be a bad reflection on the cast member who recommended him/her.

I'll do some checking to see if the SEG (Screen Extras Guild) is still in existence but I believe that  that organization has been long gone.

At present I am only familiar with SAG.

I think that Adonis and Marty have been successful in getting small roles recently and they may want to offer further information on this subject.

If you manage to get one job on a movie set, there is a good chance that you'll be offered others.

In the past I have argued with others on various internet boards about the 'impossibility' of getting work within the movie business.

I disagree entirely.

It's difficult but  .... NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

Stunt, I was actually joking. I would never seriously ask anyone to do something like that. Being in the right place at the right time has always worked out for me in the past. I appeared on LA Ink and Hardcore Pawn just by walking in at the right time. Not much to brag about there though lol.

I have an career opportunity in LA that is very lucrative. I have a great position and salary now but can add another 30% to it. I live in the Midwest now so I know the cost of living is going to be considerably higher there. I have been to LA for work several times and I really like it there. But working there a week at a time and living there is 2 different things.
I am looking for any good constructive advice from those who live in the area or have lived there. If I make the move I will be looking to live in the Carson/Torrance area. Thanks in advance.

Carson/Torrance isn't anywhere near downtown LA, traffic isn't nearly that bad. California as whole is well on it's way to shit though, politicians running the place straight into the ground. What industry are you in?

If I take the job my new boss lives in Carson and said it is like a 7 minute commute which sounds good to me. I am a corporate manager in the retail industry.

I don't mind paying double for a good rim job but there should be a standard price for BJ's across the country.

It is a Fortune 500 Company that is nearly nation wide. One of our offices is in CA.

A beautiful house but a quarter of the time it's enveloped in the marine layer.

Ca has been taxing businesses right out of the state. If they're solid on staying here, then I'd say go for it.

HONEST,What is "marine layer"?

I am familiar with 'fog' bur I have never heard that term used before.

One time I took the family on a beach run. The younger ones who could not run as far would sit down and wait for us to return.

But on one occasion down in the vicinity of San Clemente, a huge bank of fog came upon us unexpectantly which was thick enough to prevent us from seeing any further than about 10 to 20 feet so we were all lost for about 3 hours until the fog lifted.

Found the kids sitting exactly where we left them when that sun was still shining just minutes before  that fog rolled in.

Just saying that to convince ya that I do know what fog is but nothing about marine layer.

Sorry but this is somewhat of a related question .....

Has there ever been a study of the possibility of a tsunami hitting the coastline stretching from the L.A. Airport beach area al the way up to Malibu where those very expensive homes built along the high water mark are situated?

Not too many years ago you could not build any structure on the ocean side of Highway 1 but nowadays those oceanfront homes completely block the ocean view as you drive along that route.

Thanks, GYM! I'll check that out after posting the following important message which I just found on some internet site:

"Californians may be used to hearing about the threat of potentially deadly earthquakes, but a new study finds that quake-triggered tsunamis pose a greater risk to Southern California than previously thought."

One tsunami experts forecasts a huge wave of 100 feet possibly  hitting the coastline.

With that said ... I recommend that you do not rent one of those $20,000  a month beach shack.

I believe that I once read that the US government is cutting expenses by canceling the US Pacific Tsunami Early Warning Program.

And that that beach town immediately to the north of the LA Airport has road-signs showing the swiftest exit to the closest  high ground posted on every road in that town. (Sorry ... I forgot that town's name.)

Another reason to rent inland.
