Kai Greene is 42 years old, that's ancient in bodybuilding. So if this is true, it's actually a pretty smart move.

Is it ancient?  Coleman and plenty of other BBs have had success late 30s/40s +

It's relative to position mainly. He could come back and do decently, but he'd never be a threat for the Olympia like he was just a couple of years ago. If he retires now, he goes out on a high note, rather than becoming one of those old bodybuilders that are always chasing the dream.

Relative to position makes sense.

I wonder, though, if BBs start later, if they wouldn't suffer the palumboistic effects as much.

Say, someone didn't really drug up until 35, could they be peaking at 42 instead of declining?

Actually, many guys peak in their mid to late 30s. Id say bbing is a rare physical endeavour where age is not so much a deciding factor (to a point).

I work out with this one guy periodically and he is 58 6' 270 lean and he has gotten much better the last few years than he was in his 40s.Obviously juiced but still he just keeps getting bigger and leaner.

Not at all ... that's average,  just look at the ages of the top 20 Bodybuilders in the world .  You'd be surprised

WoooSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Dorian Yates's best years were mid 30's, and he was already a Olympia winner.

Coleman's best years were again late 30's, and he was already firmly cemented in the top spot. By the time he was Kai's age he was dropping in the ranks.

Cutler, again his best years were mid - 30's. He was younger than Kai when he started fading.

Jackson won it in his late 30's. He's doing ok, but will he ever win another Olympia?

Phil Heath, again mid to late 30's best years. He's half a decade younger than Kai.

42 is old in competitive bodybuilding at the Olympia level. Sure, there are older guys that look and feel great, but it's rare that they do anything at the Olympia level, they are usually middle of the pack at best. Jackson and Rhoden are the only guys over 40 that have a chance at being top 3 placers at the Olympia.

It seems like a throwback to the old days of competition with athletic portions, physique portions, and fan interaction portions contributing to a total score.

This is the League of superhuman   Men and women with superhuman form and superhuman function.

This is not a physique pageant. There are no posers and there are no judges.

The opinions, bases, and personal interpretations of other humans are not allowed.

Only real athletes and metrics

It looks to me that this will open the GetBig doors to much animosity.

Just had a quick glance at the SuperLeague web-site and it sure as hell seems to be very similar to a bodybuilding contest somewhat along the lines on the NPC/IFBB Men's Classic.

At first glance it appears to be in opposition to the IFBB/NPC org, which surprises me as it appears that Dorian is somehow involved.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out!

FAKE NEWS??? Maybe .... but ....... According to the website ....

Anyone can compete in Super League by sending us an application via the contact form. After our first event, there will be two ways to turn pro – neither of which involve local shows, pro qualifiers, or years of traveling to get your “pro card”.

1. GET DRAFTED BY THE LEAGUE. As determined by the League Council – Dorian Yates, Erin Stern, and Stan Efferding – pro athletes must simply exhibit the following:

– The characteristics of a great physique (3D score)
– The ability to create exceptional output in the gym (OQ)
– A positive presence on social media
– Athletic accomplishment is helpful, but not required

2. BEAT A PRO TO BE A PRO. You can achieve professional status by posting a SuperScore that cracks our world rankings. Official score registration will be available in the Las Vegas Arena on the 1st Saturday of each month, beginning in August 2017. A qualifying score grants you pro status, and the ability to compete in any Championship Event.

1) Kai is not leaving the IFBB
2) Kai is getting paid to attend and watch the show
3) Kai is not competing nor participating in the event
