Flex Lewis...once again referencing Georges St-Pierre, I'm reminded of him constantly being asked if he would fight Anderson Silva. Fans who don't realize the importance of weight classes for lighter competitors thought that fight was feasible, but GSP knew that he would be 184-lb fighting Anderson, who may well have been upwards of 207-lb. That is a massive weight disparity at the world class level, as well as a slight reach advantage. Georges was never officially offered the fight until he defeated Johny Hendricks at UFC 167, but the question was ridiculous to begin with.
Likewise Flex Lewis SHOULD NOT move to the open class. Why on earth would he move to the open class where he would round out the top six, or possibly get a fourth place finish at best? Maybe in five years, assuming he Flex doesn't burn out, he could be higher than #4-6 in the open, but only if a particular series of conditions is in place - some top guys retiring, others coming in off, as well as Flex increasing muscle maturity and being at his best.
So I honestly don't get why people keep asking him this question - I think it's stupid. But I suppose his fans look at him as being invincible, sort of like the fans of Conor McGregor, or the fans of any top athlete really. But I know in Flex's mind that he knows the answer to the question of whether or not he will move to the open class is N.O.
[...unless he massively increases his N.O.-XPLODE maybe. Massively.]
