My response, if I were an owner of an NFL team (or, really, the owner of any business that Trump, in his capacity as President, tried to fuck with) would have been simple:

Instead of offering his unsolicited opinion on how I should do my job, President Trump ought to focus on actually doing his. The American people elected him after he told us of the many problems we had as a country and which only he was qualified to solve. Well, Donald, you're the President. Get to solving those problems, and stay the hell out of my business.

I see, and you don't think he has?

I wouldn’t care. Standing on principle is more important to me. Trump is President, not King, and his opinions on how private businesses should run are irrelevant. Somebody ought to tell him.

Well that is some cute virtue signaling you are doing there by letting us know how "principled" you are  ::)

But it would be terrible for your business.

Trump is running long term game. Ultimately he uses issues like this to wrestle away those 10 or so red leaning seats the Democrats have to defend in about 13 months. The man is a brilliant politician.

No. I don’t think he has. I know you think he has, but that’s to be expected: you are wearing Trump brand blinders.

But even if he was doing his job, I would still tell him to not stick his nose in mine.

This is the core of the dumb party. They are not happy unless they are telling someone how to live, and heaven forbid someone exercises their constitutional rights.

While having Trump bad-mouth my business from his bully-pulpit isn’t? I’d take my chances.

We’ve heard this before. He’s playing three-dimensional chess and all that jazz. I used to buy that, but I don’t anymore. Trump hasn’t been effective in politics by leveraging the political capital he has accumulated. All he’s really done is tweet.

I don’t know what will happen in the midterms; 13 months is an eternity in politics. But even if the GOP gets more seats (which wouldn’t surprise me—the Democrats are idiots and are making mistake after mistake) I don’t know that Trump will be any more effective as a leader. I think the Trump you see today is the only Trump available.

What you see is what you get... unfortunately. The belief that he will suddenly become this brilliant tactician, making brilliant moves to bring everything together has always been a pipe dream among his supporters. He is behaving exactly as I expected him to behave, which is no change from the last 5 years

Trump has all the cards in his favor going forward.

1. The ever weakening of the liberal mainstream media and the rise of alternative media. What was the old saying? The media was worth 20 to 30 points come election night? They do not control the narrative anymore. They are picked apart systematically and mocked daily.

2. Doubling and tripling down on divisive identity politics. Plays well to the base of the Democrat Party on the coasts but is already doing irreparable damage to the heart of the country. We have already seen the effects of this with the 1,000 seats lost under Obama. The midwest and southern democrat is going the way of the dodo. It is even getting harder for them to win in the The Rust Belt.

3. As far as Trump's legislative success, years 3 and 4 of his presidency will be far more successful than that the first 2. His bills pass rather easily in The House but stall and ultimately have failed in a razor thin Republican Senate with John McCain who hates him and 2 or 3 others who seem dug in to oppose him as well. When you extend that lead from 52 to 58-62, it becomes much easier to pass these bills.

This shit is so basic but looking back I suppose that it is why myself and a few others were able to call the Trump win months out in 2016 and everybody else was shocked wondering what the hell happened come election night. They simply do not have that level of critical thinking.

Seahawks Blowout Win Sees ‘Sunday Night Football’ Ratings Down, Again
Deadline Hollywood ^ | October 2, 2017 | Dominic Patten
Posted on 10/2/2017, 10:45:47 AM

On a day that ended in gunfire and tragedy at a country music festival in Las Vegas, Sunday also saw continuing controversy with NFL players kneeling before games, more standing, locking arms, and some sitting during the national anthem. Several members of the Seattle Seahawks chose to sit before Sunday Night Football kicked off last night while the Indianapolis Colts decided to link arms in a show of unity for equality and racial justice. At the end of the game the result saw the Colts crushed as the Seahawks scored a blowout 46-18 win.

Whether it was politics or the final score or a mix of both, it was no win for NBC and the NHLNFL[sic] last night.

CNN: NFL Owners Have 'Research Clearly Showing' Trump 'Is Right' About Impact...
The Independent Journal Review ^ | October 2, 2017 | Mike Miller
Posted on 10/2/2017, 3:44:20 PM by 2ndDivisionVet

Is there a method to President Donald Trump's “madness,” as many of his most ardent supporters have stated from the beginning?

Most recent case in point: Trump said NFL ratings are down and continue to slide, because of growing fan displeasure with national anthem protests:

(TWEET-AT-LINK)

Meanwhile, liberal media outlets and others, including Vox, have blamed the ratings slide on everything but the protests.

Just one problem.

As CNN anchor John King reported Sunday, team owners are now in possession of data backing Trump's claim — at least to a substantial degree:

"NFL owners so far siding with their players for their right to free speech, but they're also keeping close tabs on the financial impact and the public relations impact of this confrontation.

I'm told the owners have research clearly showing the president is right when he says the anthem protests are one factor in a TV ratings drop."

As is always the case, the formula is simple: If business owners don't pay attention to the bottom line, they ultimately go out of business:

“And since the president weighed in, the owners are now dealing with a surge in ticket holder requests for refunds. Other sports leagues are watching this quite closely.”

Let's get back to that “method to the madness” reference.

Being the savvy businessman Trump is, is it reasonable to suggest maybe, just maybe, when he poured gas all over the national anthem protest, he believed the resulting firestorm would cause players to double down on their protest, further alienating fans?

Is it also reasonable to suggest Trump figured ratings declines associated with growing fan discontent would ultimately cause not only advertisers to balk but force owners to ultimately consider their respective bottom lines, as well?

If Trump has taught both supporters and detractors anything over the past 28 months, it's that he often defies his critics. Gleefully so. Every time.

King's comments are in the below video.

Trump’s domination was evident after the debates began and it was clear that nobody had a plan on how to challenge him effectively.

His win in the election also seemed inevitable once it became clear that Hillary and Bernie were both digging in and fighting each other. By the time Clinton “cinched” it, it was well and truly over.

Again, once the debates got underway, Trump’s ascendancy was so obvious (if bewildering) that Ray Charles could see it coming from a mile away. Before the debates? Different story.

So don’t pat yourself on the back about your critical thinking ability just yet. You make a few predictions here. Let’s see what happens.

Not it wasn't.  Nobody on this board outside of poly saw this coming.  That is true of almost everyone on the political landscape too.  Even the most accurate prognosticator (Nate Silver) totally whiffed.  From my recollection, only two polls consistently showed Trump winning the race:  the LA Times and IBD.  Nate Silver and Larry Sabado (who also missed pretty badly) both said we should discount the LA Times as an outlier.  Definitely the most surprising and amazing political feat of my lifetime (taking the title from Obama).

Honestly, I remember getting a certain feeling while reading a post (your post, idb) shortly before the day, saying 'I think he may win this thing' or something like that.  For some reason it sort of hit me that it was true.

2016 will go down as the election where the mainstream media ultimately died and alternative media took over.

Not blatantly apparent at the time. Not necessarily an instant kill shot to the head but rather a good clean stab wound to the gut and as in the words of Bill The Butcher from Gangs of New York "A slow painful death. Let him think about it for a while."

We are still seeing this death unfold before us.

It is a great time for We, The Citizens.

A guy with a 100 dollar webcam would provide point by point analysis better than anything multi-billion dollar corporations with obvious agendas could ever do. It is just a superior form of analysis and communication when you take all the money and interests out of it.

Another youtuber would go on to breakdown all the over sampling and unreliability of many of these polls.

At the 1:54 he would call it 296 - Trump to 199 - Clinton. CONSERVATIVELY SPEAKING. Just Masterful analysis of the data being put out there.

I am not talking about polls. I am talking about something intangible. People from both sides were genuinely sick of politics and the "business as usual" game.

On the right, MAGA hats were flying off the shelves. Trump, an elderly blowhard with a human hair wig, spoke with impunity and nobody could even figure out how to counter him. He said things that would have doomed any other candidate and nothing happened.

On the left, Bernie merchandise was flying off the shelves. Bernie Sanders, a geriatric patient with a crazy eye, proudly proclaimed he's a democratic socialist and attacked the heir presumptive from the left. He said things that would have doomed any other candidate and nothing happened.

I don't know what the prognosticators and the pollsters said. Once the first debate was finished, the outcome was known. The only surprise, in my opinion, was that Bernie succumbed to the wicked witch. Amazing what a little scheming at the national party level and  having "super" delegates will do, yeah?

I understand most of what you're saying, except the part about the outcome being known, when you don't know what the prognosticators and pollsters said.  Those folks are the ones who help us understand what the projected outcome will be.  They are often right (especially Silver), but not this time.

You are right about all of the unconventional things Trump and Sanders did.  It's even more extreme than what you say.  Trump spent half as much as Clinton.  He ran against Clinton and the nearly all of the MSM.  I posted an article a little while back that showed something like 50 out 52 newspapers endorsed Clinton.  There is no way someone who said the things Trump did, spent as little money, and had such a stacked deck against him should have won.

If you're saying everyone knew Trump would be the nominee and would be elected president, I don't think the evidence supports that conclusion.  Unless you mean something else?

The Glass House of the NFL
Townhall.com ^ | October 5, 2017 | Victor Davis Hanson
Posted on 10/5/2017, 7:12:20 AM by Kaslin

The National Football League is a glass house that was cracking well before Donald Trump's criticism of players who refuse to stand during the national anthem.

The NFL earned an estimated $14 billion last year. But 500-channel television, internet live streaming, video games and all sorts of other televised sports have combined to threaten the league's monopoly on weekend entertainment -- even before recent controversies.

It has become a fad for many players not to stand for the anthem. But it is also becoming a trend for irate fans not to watch the NFL at all.

Multimillionaire young players, mostly in their 20s, often cannot quite explain why they have become so furious at emblems of the country in which they are doing so well.

Their gripes at best seem episodic and are often without supporting data. Are they mad at supposedly inordinate police brutality toward black citizens, or racial disparity caused by bias, or the perceived vulgarity of President Donald Trump?

The result, fairly or not, is that a lot of viewers do not understand why so many young, rich players show such disrespect for their country -- and, by extension, insult their far poorer fans, whose loyal support has helped pay their salaries.

ESPN talking heads and network TV analysts do not help. They often pose as social justice warriors, but they are ill-equipped to offer sermons to fans on their ethical shortcomings that have nothing to do with football.

In truth, the NFL's hard-core fan base is not comprised of bicoastal hipsters. Rather, the league's fan base is formed mostly by red-state Americans -- and many of them are becoming increasingly turned off by the culture of professional football.

I didn't know they were protesting the flag.

 ???

That's how it started:

Before a preseason game in 2016, Kaepernick sat down, as opposed to the tradition of standing, during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner". During a post-game interview, he explained his position stating, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder", referencing a series of events that led to the Black Lives Matter movement and adding that he would continue to protest until he feels like "[the American flag] represents what it's supposed to represent."

Then why not show up at a local PD vs taking a knee at the national anthem?

The entire thing by these idiots has been a shit show from day 1.  Millionaire blacks lecturing blue collar white at home who cant even afford to attend the game about injustice.  Yeah - makes a lot of sense.   ::)

Well, we don't like BLM marching on roadways and screwing up traffic, we don't ant our protests violent, so when someone takes a knee, it's all of a sudden a huge problem?

I mean, people have done all kinds of things in the name of injustice and really, if you protest, or I protest, no one cares.

At this point in the our society, if you don't have some fame, you don't make any kind of impact.

Just because people are famous or have money means they can't say when something is wrong? Seems counter productive.

Why would showing up at a PD make any changes occur?
