Texans Players May Remove Team Logo From Helmets In Protest
AOL News ^ | Oct 29th 2017 8:21AM | Nic Parco
Posted on 10/29/2017, 11:32:18 AM by drewh

Texans players met late Saturday to discuss how to protest as a team against Houston’s owner Bob McNair over his controversial “inmates running the prison” comment.

“The players could decide to all kneel together, and also discussed peeling the Texans decal off of their helmets or raising their fists,” according to ESPN.

Whatever their demonstration winds up being, it won’t be revealed before the game against the Seahawks.

McNair apologized for his words multiple time this weekend, saying: “I am truly sorry to the players for how this has impacted them and the perception that it has created of me, which could not be further from the truth.”

Give me a break. It’s not like that expression hasn’t been used 1 million times by employers everywhere.

Of course, in this case, it’s particularly accurate.

Sorry homey’s. Nobody gives a shit about your stupid little protest.

NFL Players Seek Meeting With Goodell, McNair, Kaepernick
Fox News ^ | 10/29/17
Posted on 10/29/2017, 11:59:45 AM by Enlightened1

An NFL team owner’s recent “inmates running the prison” remark has prompted a group of the league’s players to call for a meeting Monday to clear the air.

The Washington Post reported Saturday that a panel called the Players Coalition has requested a meeting Monday in Philadelphia with league Commissioner Roger Goodell, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, and free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

It wasn’t immediately clear if all parties had agreed to attend.

Meanwhile, ESPN reported Saturday that the Houston Texans players were planning to stage an unspecified protest against McNair's remarks prior to Sunday's game against the Seahawks in Seattle.

“Many players have been deeply troubled by the disturbing comments made by Texans' owner Bob McNair,” the Players Coalition said in a statement. “It is ironic that such a quote would emerge in the midst of an ongoing struggle to highlight injustices suffered by people of color, including our nation's deeply flawed approach to criminal justice and inhumane treatment of imprisoned people.”

McNair has apologized twice since making what he described as a “very regretful comment” during a recent league meeting about players’ national anthem protests. The comment was published in ESPN The Magazine.

But McNair insisted afterward that he wasn’t referring to the players as “inmates” when he said, “We can’t have the inmates running the prison.” Instead, he said, he was describing the relationship between team owners and the league office in New York.

Nevertheless, in a league on edge over race-related matters -- sparked in large part by Kaepernick’s 2016 protests against American society’s treatment of people of color – the “inmates” remark wasn’t accepted well.

I wonder how many of these owners are considering selling their teams. Could you imagine being a billionaire and having to indulge pieces of shit like this. I’m sure some of the things they’ve said in private are 10 times as bad.

Papa John's blames NFL for sales decline, rips 'poor leadership'
By Thomas Barrabi
Published November 01, 2017 Sports
FOXBusiness

Sports Business Journal NFL writer Dan Kaplan on anthem protests and how they will affect sponsors.
Papa John’s Pizza, one of the NFL’s biggest corporate sponsors, on Wednesday said the league’s mishandling of player national anthem protests has had a negative impact on its sales.

“The NFL has hurt us,” Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter said during an earnings call. “More importantly, by not resolving the current debacle to the players’ and owners’ satisfaction, NFL leadership has hurt Papa John’s shareholders.”

A longtime NFL sponsor, Papa John’s has been the league’s official pizza since 2010. The restaurant chain has partnered with several top NFL stars, including retired quarterback Peyton Manning and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, as well as 23 of the league’s 32 teams. Papa John’s has also been a major advertiser during NFL broadcasts for several years.

The NFL did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment. Papa John’s did not provide specific data on how much the NFL protests have affected its business. However, company shares fell more than 8% in trading Wednesday.

NFL viewership is down so far this season, marking the second consecutive year that the league has seen its television audience decline. Meanwhile, the league has seen an unprecedented wave of player protests amid public clashes with President Trump, who urged the league’s owners last September to fire any player who kneels during the national anthem.

Papa John’s COO and President Steve Ritchie said “another year of unexpected decline in viewership of the NFL, combined with significant negative consumer sentiment of our association with the league” has hurt the company’s sales outlook.

“These NFL challenges have persisted into Q4 and the negative impact to our projected results has been reflected into our updated full-year sales and earnings guidance,” Ritchie added.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.  JJ Watt raises $37 million for flood relief and they give an award like this to Kaepernick.  Crazy world.

Colin Kaepernick GQ's Citizen of the Year
By Zoe Papadakis    |   Monday, 13 Nov 2017

Colin Kaepernick has been named as GQ's "Citizen of the Year" for 2017, earning a spot on the glossy magazine's front cover.

In a report "celebrating the man who became the movement," GQ noted that Kaepernick agreed to participate in the feature for the publication's December "Men of the Year" issue in an effort to "reclaim the narrative of his protest."

The feature comes four years after Kaepernick's first front cover appearance with GQ and, as the magazine noted, much has changed since then.

In 2013 the then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback was a star on the rise. Fast forward to 2017 and he has become a leader in protests of social injustice

"A simple act—kneeling during the national anthem—changed everything," GQ wrote. "It cost him his job. It also transformed Colin Kaepernick into a lightning rod and a powerful symbol of activism and resistance."

In 2016, Kaepernick made history as the first NFL player to take a knee during the national anthem before games as a form of protest to police brutality and racial injustice, The Hill noted.

This sparked a movement as other players followed suit, drawing praise and criticism.

President Donald Trump slammed players who took a knee during the anthem, which prompted a fresh wave of protest among players.

Things heated up as coaches discussed whether the act was acceptable and Trump called for the NFL to enforce a rule making it mandatory for players to stand during the national anthem.

Meanwhile, Kaepernick, who has battled to find work since, filed a federal lawsuit against the NFL, stating that the league had colluded in not signing him, Bleacher Report noted.

Speaking to GQ about Kaepernick, Ameer Hasan Loggins, a writer and U.C. Berkeley academic, said, "The irony now is that the NFL is trying to make him voiceless because he made himself a voice for the voiceless."

Loggins added that this was a reason to die on the sword defending what Kaepernick has done.

"Because he did it for the people."

Trump: Why Is This NFL Player Standing For The Mexican National Anthem But Not America?
Townhall.com ^ | November 20, 2017 | Katie Pavlich

President Trump took to Twitter Monday morning to harshly condemn NFL player Marshawn Lynch after he stood for the Mexican national anthem, yet took a knee for the U.S. Star Spangled Banner during Sunday Night Football over the weekend.

Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 20, 2017

Marshawn Lynch sits during the US national anthem, stands for Mexican anyhem pic.twitter.com/8wdaKprEki— Ben Volin (@BenVolin) November 19, 2017

Lynch is a running back for the Oakland Raiders and was playing against the New England Patriots when he made the controversial move.

President Trump has regularly criticized individual NFL players for refusing to stand for the U.S. national anthem. He's also gone after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who refuses to implement an enforced policy that requires players to stand.

Since protests against the national anthem started last year, NFL ratings have plummeted with fans citing players' refusal to stand for the American flag as the main reason they're tuning out of games. The business cost to the NFL is enormous.

As Roger Goodell, Jerry Jones, and the NFL engage in an ugly internal fight over the future leadership of the NFL, TV partners at CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC are staring at their own internal conflicts — namely a substantial decline in NFL ratings that is on pace to cost the four networks up to $500 million in lost revenue.

Already several hundred million in lost revenue has been booked in 2017 and it has the league’s top executives and television partners scrambling to figure out what went wrong. How did a league that was setting ratings records in 2015 suddenly see its audience fall by nearly 20% just two years later.

It's his right for protest a false narrative because he IS that stupid but he crossed the line when he stood for another country flag. He's proven that (they) do not give two shits about our military and flag. He can fuck off.

As I’ve said, the fans weren’t happy with the product before this kneeling shit started. It’s pretty much been the straw that broke the camels back:

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/nov/27/nfl-ratings-down-thanksgiving/

The early game, a matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings, saw its ratings fall 12.3 percent compared to last year’s Lions-Vikings game. The number is also down 7.3 from the Eagles-Lions in 2015. But the Vikings-Lions still drew an 11.3 rating.

The next game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Chargers saw the biggest drop-off in one year. Cowboys-Chargers drew a 12.4 rating, but it was down nearly 20 percent from last year’s Redskins-Cowboys game.

NFL’s Olivier Vernon tells fans if they don’t like him kneeling, ‘don’t come to the game’
washingtontimes.com ^ | Valerie Richardson
Posted on 12/4/2017, 7:44:20 AM by RoosterRedux

New York Giants defensive end Olivier Vernon ignited an outcry after telling fans if they don’t approve of his decision to kneel for the national anthem, “don’t come to the game.”

The retort came after Vernon, the only member of the Giants still regularly taking a knee, told reporters that he had been heckled by fans in response to his season-long protest.

“You hear ‘coward’ and ‘stand up’ and ‘disgrace,’” Vernon said. “It’s fine. As long as nobody comes on the field and touches me. You stay where you at, you’re going to be all right. They have a right. Oh yeah, I hear it all the time. If they don’t like it, don’t come to the game.”

His comments, which ran Thursday in the New York Post, stunned former NFL quarterback and CBS Sports commentator Boomer Esiason, who called them an “out-and-out disgrace.”

He pointed out that Vernon signed last year an $85 million, five-year contract with Giants owner John Mara, the richest for a defensive end in NFL history.

“Here is a guy you gave $80 million to basically telling your fans, ‘If you don’t like it, don’t come,’” said Esiason on WFAN radio in New York City. “It is the most egregious act of defiance. It just blows me away.”
