Oddly, had Flex or Shawn won in 93 (or 98) we may have not seen  the guts and extreme weight. Or Dex, Vic or Dennis Wolfe in 2007.
And it seems that the true purity of bodybuilding and weightlifting was/is the guys like Craig Monson, dudes who just loved to lift and look good, not necessarily competitive.

BETHERE, In what ways did the internet destroy bodybuilding?

I've seen it grow from the days when  6 contenders competed for a plastic medal with a cheap red ribbon beneath a 60 watt lightbulb hung from a basketball net with only mom's and dad's and family members watching the event.

One BB pro back then said it was more like a family picnic.

And I've never seen any other 'sporting' event even come close to the fast growth in the number of today's participating NPC contenders.

And a lot of this growth has to be a result of the internet today.

Sure .... The internet has destroyed a good number of individuals whose original concept of bodybuilding was once pristine ... but still ...the worldwide  interest in the 'game' seems to be ever-expanding .... and I see no end in sight.

Where do you see it differently?

The funny thing though - if you talk to a lot of crossfit people, people in other sports like MMA, etc - they are where we were over a decade ago realizing how prevalent drugs are in these things.

The problem with them is, is that with a weight-training/bodybuilding background one can clearly see that they are not. Add in the internet, if a person still cannot tell, then I guess these folks still leave cookies out for Santa Claus as well.

PRAY4. Yes, I will agree with your statement that both myself and BeThere are basically correct, but apparently the old Hollywood  saying, "There's no such thing as bad publicity!!" is evident here within the world of bodybuilding also.

No matter how badly one sees it, it continues to grow  beyond anyone's expectations.
