"The Beatles want to hold your hand," wrote Tom Wolfe, "but the Stones want to burn down your town."
I prefer The Rolling Stones!

The Beatles are the best and most influential of all pop/rock bands in the same way Sinatra is the best and most influential singer of traditional popular music.  They defined and influenced the genre and era.  Yes there were other bands/groups that were quite popular and very good.  Among them were the Stones, Credence, the Yardbirds, the Turtles and anything with Clapton.  But they weren't the Beatles.

Unlike the scum of what is loosely referred to as "singers" today, the Beatles had both vocal and musical talent.

I have  yet to see a person (young or old) running down the street clutching a thumb drive and yelling at the top of their meth decayed vocal cords and lungs, "THE NEW KANYE WEST ALBUM IS HERE!!"  Western civilization used to lead the way in music, now it just shits on it.

If you don’t think this is great you probably have some issues:

A couple years ago at the Super Bowl, Katy Perry was the halftime show. Paul McCartney was in attendance in the stands. I remember thinking to just give him an acoustic guitar and let him play a few songs. Would’ve been 1000x better.

From this we can conclude two things:

1) You are white
2) You do not live in Detroit

Paul McCartney, one of the most influential songwriters in the world

Lets look at his hit "Dance Tonight"

Everybody gonna dance tonight
Everybody gonna feel alright
Everybody gonna dance around tonight

Everybody gonna dance around
Everybody gonna hit the ground
Everybody gonna dance around tonight

Well, you can come on to my place if you want to
You can do anything you want to do

Everybody gonna dance tonight
Everybody gonna feel alright
Everybody gonna dance around tonight

Well, you can come on to my place if you want to
You can do anything you want to do

Everybody gonna stamp their feet
Everybody's gonna feel the beat
Everybody gonna dance around tonight

Everybody's gonna dance tonight
Everybody gonna feel alright
Everybody gonna dance around tonight

Yeah, everybody gonna jump and shout
Everybody's gonna…

Well, you can come on to my place if you want to
You can do anything you want to do

Everybody gonna dance tonight
Everybody gonna feel alright
Everybody gonna dance around tonight

Everybody's gonna dance around tonight
And everybody's gonna feel alright tonight

To be fair, there’s not a whole lot to popular music lyrics in general:

In pop, it’s some guy singing about how some chick is God’s gift.

In blues, it’s some dude begging some chick who left him to come back.

And if it’s a female songwriter, it’s some chick whining about a guy cheating on her.

The Beatles is a legendary band that paved roads for groups to follow.

But I hate them. Hate. Them.

Total wankers. Bunch of ugly kunts who were basically as annoying as anyone could be.

Actually Mccartney on his own or with Wings is not very influential for this reason...Mccartney had the pop sensibility and Lennon a more raw expressive quality...This is why much of Lennons work alone was very abstract...one track of yoko screaming and shit...or "Woman is the nggr of the world" by John..just pretty radical, non radio shit....while Wings recorded some very irrelevant disco songs...but Lennon and Mccartney together is where the magic happened.

Absolutely! I saw McCartney live at the Spectrum in Philly in the 70's. I will forget it, especially Blackbird.

At least Oasis got one thing right with their Beatles schtick.

Someone wrote in another thread that you couldn't name five Beatles songs that were better than five Oasis songs. I could name five songs on Revolver alone better than anything Oasis put out. Beatles were awesome.
