I tore my left bicep  just wheeling a motorcycle out of the garage. It`s strange, but the torn bicep has a better peak than the right bicep

I am often in awe of power lifters, but for me, doing ANY exercise at or near my max weight is not worth the risk.  I never lift anything I cannot perform at least 8 reps with, the last rep being very difficult to complete.

There is zero sense of doing deadlifts unless you're a world champion powerlifter. The risk far outweighs the benefits. You can get the same progress with chins, rows, lat pulldowns, etc.

You don't have to pile on the weight. That pretty much sabotages any exercise.

We attended The Reebok World Records Breakers Meet last Saturday in Dublin, Ca. Solid Meet. I believe 7-8 guys pulled over 800. An 800 pound deadlift is still very elite and super rarified.  Two cats actually broke 900.

Cailer Woolam pulled 925 at 207. Yes 207.
Steve Johnson pulled 909 at 290 I belive lifting in the 308 class.

No biceps tears. That's such a strange unpredictable tear. When it happens during a heavy pull unfortunately it's usually a catastrophic total detachment. IMO there's no way to strengthen your bicep tendons to prevent that from happening when pulling huge weight. I think all you can do is make sure you're not "pulling with your biceps" at all. Squeeze the bar, crush the bar but don't flex those biceps.

Great video. Tough man right there. He never stopped pulling.

its almost as if the human frame isnt constructed to lift 900 pounds or something.

Recently, a guy showed me his workout schedule on his phone. Right after performing deads, his 'trainer' instructed him to perform preacher curls :o

I forgot to mention that crazy double overhand hook grip. Amazing. When you see him, you think theres not way this skinny guy can pull anything super crazy.

He does have long arm and a small waist and that gives him some good tools but he's just so thin. I've trained at STG with him before. His low back is bizarre- it looks like his abs... four-six little blocks of muscle. Just weird.

He's tough too. Watched him pull 600 for 18-20 reps, with a 20 second rest between reps, with straps.  His shins were bleeding like crazy and he just kept pulling.

Bicep can be a partial tear a complete rupture. I'm referring to the tendon tearing off. The actual muscle can tear too.

I had a complete tear. The bicep was up by my shoulder. It was hell to recover from. That little bicep affected my whole arm and shoulder. Took about 6 months before I could lift decent weight again. I deadlift now but nothing heavy. I also dead lift at the end of my back workout when I am fatigued so that 6 reps of 315lbs feels heavy.  Deadlifting is safer with a double over hand lift but it's hard to grip the bar.

Did you have immediate surgery? I had a buddy tear his in a contest pulling 750 and it rolled right up like a shade. I was helping him and he was really in a lot of pain. I don't remember the recovery because it was many years ago.

a question that have been asked for thousands of years

and yet no answer

why do deads?

Because its the easiest ego lift there is. Most guys can pull 3+ plates pretty quick from starting training.
It's (to a point) the most forgiving lift for bad form. So many ppl pull awfully, yet "complete" the lift. Squats arent so forgiving (not saying its a good thing, but for some peoples ego it works)

Competely useless exercise IMO. Barely a partial squat, good mornings work your erectors better, and whats it do for lats, nothing.

But it's easy to be "strong" at it

Years of boxing (jabbing) reshaped my left biceps like that.

That supinated grip puts the biceps in a compromising position.  I've not seen a tear on the pronated side yet.

Double-hook grip, baby!

The easiest ego lift?  My friend you are forgetting the all-time champion... the angled leg press.  :D Eight plates per sides easy peasy. 12-15 plates per side no problem at all. Hell plates stacked all over that damn thing- no fuss no muss.

I've seen these shenanigans many times over the last 30 years.  Leg press gets loaded with 45's, but it's always half or quarter reps.  These morons couldn't do 5 plates a side for 10 full reps.

Here's another ego-candidate..
