Same problem here. Sucks. I stretch whenever I can (watching TV, etc).  in car and at desk, I crumple up a towel or a shirt or something and put it in small of back. Then standard ice and ibupophin. It helps me

is it due to fluid retention in the lower back

would a diuretic help?

Buy some turmeric pills. They help.
Go to the doctor and score some Cyclobenzaprine or Skelaxin.

Twice a week massage does wonders.  Only 30 minutes and have her work on your back, and glutes too.

Maybe you should get off the drugs. Maybe then you can start doing athletic things again. Sounds like you are about as useless as tits on a boar.

Buy an inversion table and never look back.
Toss the deadlifts.

Try trap bar deadlifts as a replacement, and yes, inversion table is excellent.

Nice vid.  Thanks for posting.

I don't move enough lbs for injury but still get pain from time to time.  Almost always comes back to imbalance and flexibility issues from neglecting therapeutic exercises.

Stop the steroids and dead-lifting.

Read a book and drink tea, symptoms will subside.

You call yourself 'old-school-lifter', but you talk like a drug-driven 'modern-school-lifter'

Foam rolling and stretching is the answer.

The massage option is good too, but generally not realistic week in, week out.
