No homo but Rich Piana was a good looking guy back in the day. 6ft +, great shape, good smile, had hair and a good personality. He had everything going for him. People say that he was successful with what he chose to do in life. I'd argue in any walk of life he decided to go towards, he would have been just as successful but WITH the longevity.

Hi Rich Piana's ghost.

Very true.  It's a little sad when you put it that way.  Rich most likely took 20-40 years off his life.  I would even say it was in the upper range, as he spent so many years not just big - but extremely massive.  It's hard to say for sure though.  With someone like Mike Matarazzo who had a history of heart disease in his family, he may have died relatively young with or without pro bodybuilding.  But in Rich's case, having pushed size to an even higher level than Mike [in addition to whatever he injected into his arms] may have lasted a little longer.  It's hard to say exactly of course, but I think Rich could have made 70 or later, under a healthier lifestyle.  While I personally consider his early death to be sad, he did live life on his own terms - exactly as he wanted to live.

Interestingly, someone on Getbig replied to the thread about Rich's wedding by writing something to the effect "Rich is in the last ten years of his life.  Cut him some slack"  Low and behold, it ended up being much less than ten years.  :-\ :(

Without the oil, Piano was nowhere near Matarazzo’s size.

Rich Piana looked great without all those tattoos.  He turned into a cartoon character of himself, but it did sell

Without the oil, Piano was nowhere near Matarazzo’s size.

Well...let's "unpack" that:

Rich was 297-lb when I met/interviewed him at the MUTANT booth in 2012 at the Mr. Olympia expo, loaded with oil.  I think he generally held something closer to 270-lb.  That was at 6'2.  Mike was about 5'9.5", and competed at about 250-lb, with an off-season weight of over 275-lb...maybe up to 300-lb.  So yes, I guess if you sort of ignore the arms and look at everything else, Rich was not as large/muscular as Mike.  That said, the oil itself probably harms a person's body in a unique way [is it even known how the body deals with oil??].  In any case, bodybuilding at that level simply can't be healthy.  :-X

Rich looked great back then.  Had good size and looked really energetic.  His body image disorder absolutely killed him.

He was surrounded by EVERYTHING and filled with NOTHING  the perfect picture for social media success .

WooSHHHH GODDAMMIT

^^^^^^ This pretty much sums up Rich's life.  I hope he was happy in his final years but the drug abuse would seem to indicate that he was trying to fill a void in his life by any means possible.  Hope his soul is at peace now.
