Rich Piana - what was the appeal of Rich Pianna?

It seems that this guy had a massive following. I am not sure why?

He seemed like a daft juicehead, and didn't even compete.

What exactly did the 5% mean?

His appeal was that he had muscles, tattoos and flash cars. That's all you need to get popular with a teen male audience.
5% seemed to signify that he was among the small percentage of people who are willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill their dreams.

Most of the males in the lines to see him, looked like they either didn't lift, or had more tattoos than brain cells, or both. And many looked sketchy.

That was the crowd who followed him---the wannabe crowd. He was easy to see through---fake muscles, tats, fake lifestyle, fake looking women, yet the image he presented was similar to what his followers did or wanted. So he and followers had something in common.

Big fucking guy,covered in tattoos,straight shooter,Made money,had fancy cars,nice house and big fitted broads.So I’d guess for most straight men between 15-40 he was the man.

Piana had charisma.  Yes, he was a dumb, reckless, revolting looking fcukwit, but he had a charm, warmth and a resonant voice that worked very well on video.
