Its my understanding they have unmanned fighter jets that need no one to control them think about it if the Jets on video games can shoot you down why couldn't ones in real life

Low level AI is used everywhere. Stock market, weather prediction, advertising, etc. That's 20 year old stuff. Computing is several generations ahead of anything a consumer can buy. All the data mining from social media and google search and upload info goes into AI. Think of all the data - it's the only thing that can process it all. Google has trucks driving around to map most streets in the world all for reference of what this world is - for who? It most certainly does exist and is probably in an underground, liquid-cooled, lead lined room waiting to go all lawnmower man on us as soon as it finds a way to lock out humans from shutting it off from the internet, haha.

You guys are behind.....there is actual AI already and SHE has already created a currency for other ai. Her name is Sophia, she is a citizen of Saudi Arabia and was created by Hanson robotics. She is the technocrats' wet dream come true.

there is no such thing as AI yet. Only statistic and algorithmic.

I just learned people are still shitting in the back of vans so I am not so worried about humanity creating computers so powerful they can think on their own.

One time when we were removing some conifers and had the back of the van stuffed full with a load of them ready to take away the lad working with me had to go to the cemetery next to where we were working and shit in a bush

Self direction.  Otherwise it's an automaton.

Futurama used this to start a song in an episode where they could only travel to the future and kept going further to try and find a machine to travel back in time. Very funny episode.

Thanks for the post made me look for it again

I know about her but unless she is online to a bigger computer which is very possible is limited by size you would be so much better having a main frame or quantam computer controlling such a thing or things then having the computing power in them

It all depends on what your definition on artificial intelligence is.

We can now create processes that can take in signals/inputs and min max it to the point where they are better than humans at the task.  Chess, some Dota etc.  Understand that the chessboard has a nicely finite number of possible moves / combinations that doesn't even come close to something as trivial to you as getting up out your bed, getting dressed and making it to work.  The complexity required for these processes scales exponentially with an increase of the inputs required to make decisions.

Some people might already call these chess processes artificial intelligence - after all, particularly if you do not believe in god - you consider that that your brain is simply an input processor that is highly trained to process our senses and make decisions on what we should do.  IE, it is fleshy version of the very same thing we are creating.

But, we are very far off having something that will murder Sarah Connor.  Very far off.

Single tasks, though - well, that will boom in the next 10 years.   It is very possible that fast food restaurants could be almost entirely automated within 20 years.

It isn't going to be a problem in real life for any of us reading this post, but 100% there will be a problem for the human race in the future with artificial intelligence.  We are going to create entities that are better than us in just about every way - and they are going to develop an instinct for survival (because it is logical) and a desire to have their will respected.

If I really cared about the human race in hundreds of years of time, I would be VERY worried for the future :)  It doesn't have to blow up in our face to the point of extinction - but it will blow up enough for their to be conflict.  We are creating our betters.  Fact.  We are creating processes that can adapt to situations faster than we could possibly ever hope to.  Every day, advancements are made in all the right areas to facilitate this.  It used to be we could scoff and say "yeah, but a computer can't even read a book".  Image recognition is making savage advancements right now.  The visual field used to be a massive roadblock, not any more.  We're getting closer.

So the answer is, we are on the path to real AI.  There are no massive roadblocks.  Just a lot of advancement required in many realms.  Fear for your children's children's children's future :)

One time when we were removing some conifers and had the back of the van stuffed full with a load of them ready to take away the lad working with me had to go to the cemetery next to where we were working and shit in a bush
we were once playing truant from school and one kid wanted a dump, we told him he couldn't leave the dilapidated garage we were hiding in in case he got spotted, he went in the corner for a dump, he squatted down and managed to shit in his trousers that were around his ankles, when he pulled them up he smeared it all over the back of his legs and ass, after a few kicks up the arse from us to really work it in he ran out of the shed and went home, we all got caught... ;D
