Bush was careful to praise the military but not engage in excessively pro-American rhetoric, wrapping it up in folksy bromides and nostalgia for the days of Manifest Destiny (as during his closing statement vs. Kerry in the last of the 2004 debates, when he butchered an anecdote about a painting in his office). He took a lot of heat for the Iraq war and had to keep a low profile on the USA! USA! stuff to avoid pissing off conservative Democrats and foreign governments.

My support for this President has few equals; to call it “fanatical” doesn’t begin to describe it fully. If he was standing next to me, I’d happily take a gunblast to the face to save his life and spite my family from giving me an open casket funeral in the bargain. If he was accused of murder, I’d enthusiastically claim I did it and do everything humanly possible to prove it in court.
