Name,if you will, guitarists that truly influenced, innovated, and changed the way the guitar was played.
It’s a short list...

The list consists of Ace Frehley.

With Edward Van Halen a distant second.

Ace is the definition of Rock God Guitarist. Hendrix can't touch him. Paige can't touch him. Clapton is a joke.

Depends on how he’s being viewed.

From the perspective of his generation and his overall impact on the burgeoning culture of electric guitar, no, he is not overrated.

The man was creative, spirited and unafraid to push traditional sonic boundaries.

However, if Hendrix is being considered from a pure vantage point of technical ability and such, Jimi is absolutely nowhere. By the late 1970s, he was being destroyed by many players. Forget the eighties. That decade is arguably the “great leap forward” for rock guitar virtuosity.

Hendrix is monumental in the instruments’ rise to its current status as wizardly spectacle. He was in possession of musical talents, absolutely.

His influence, (select) catalogue, and, again, impact, isn’t overrated, but his actual facility on the electric guitar most certainly is.

Jimi’s music and playing hasn’t ever done a thing for me. For decades I’ve tried and tried to consider changing my opinion, but then I listen to some of his playing and I think, Nope.

Your mother.

Your mother is a woman of ill repute.  She took many lovers and she's uncertain which one of them fathered you.  Her vagina smells like aged stockfish, she's missing three teeth, and her credit score is 450.

I remember dancing to one of their tunes at summer camp when I was 8.  Great times.

Hendrix was obviously gay. What straight man would write the lyric “Excuse me while I kiss this guy”??

The classically trained technical wizards are usually out there doing way too much.  I judge guitarists by the sound of the notes that they play, not the difficulty of the notes they play.  Just my opinion.

It's like in basketball.  Allen Iverson dribbles the ball 45 times and dances around his defender to score 2 points.  Shaq catches the ball, takes 2 steps and dunks it for 2 points.  More complicated doesn't always mean better.

Or in film.  Star Wars Episode I had complex cgi graphics and digitally created characters.............. .was it better than The Empire Strikes Back?

prince was the most talented musician to walk the earth, he could play every instrument fluently, and wrote all his songs.

No he couldn't. He could play the guitar somewhat, couldn't play the drums at all.
