Did you even read my entire post? I agree and that's why despite being a life long Catholic I left the church.
This is the thing: If the religious conservatives had their way, they would LOVE for America to be a theocracy. And you know it. I know many conservatives who believe this country would be better off if it was run like a theocracy, followed by Christian-Judeo principles. The problem, is they do not have the power or voice to make this happen, but you bet your ass if they did, they would love for it to happen and would have no problem making America a theocracy and "going back to the way things were in the 1700's or whatever." . But again, it's out of their reach, so do they don't toy with the idea because they don't have the power to accomplish such a goal.
When the Left seizes an opportunity to exert their power and alter society, they will do so, just like the Right would if the pendulum swung back in their direction. In every society or culture, the group in power will modify society to fit their worldview. Right now its the Left with their Progressive ideas. Maybe in 100 years, it will be the conservatives.
