Call a person whatever they ask you to. It's good etiquette and sometimes avoids outbursts such as the one in the video. However, both characters in the video are acting badly.

Figures you’d say this.

I’m not entertaining someone’s delusion.

Wouldn't be surprised if the person filming was with this ma'am while they were out looking for a confrontation.

Good point. Where do all these videos come from?

A freak mutant. What else?

Probably not the nicest term to use, but it is correct. Only a very small percentage of the population are born hermaphrodite or intersex.

He should have kept calling that disgusting creature sir to antagonise it further till it snapped and attacked him and he had an excuse to beat it down.

When I was a youngster, many of my friends would call my mother ma'am, which was and is polite. My mom would tell them to call her Mimi. This was her nickname. Should they have complied with her wishes or stuck with what they had been taught?

Call a person whatever they ask you to. It's good etiquette and sometimes avoids outbursts such as the one in the video. However, both characters in the video are acting badly.

I partially agree with this, but also disagree with this.

If someone wants me to call them "X," I may or may not do it. If I had a best friend, whom I have known for 30 years, wanted me to call them a specific name, then I would oblige, obviously. On the other hand, I am not obligated to call a random person a particular name, just because they want me to. And, if I don't want to call them that name, they should respect my wishes and move on, without causing an outburst. There is no excuse to act disorderly.

I DO NOT want to be obliged or be expected to do anything, just because people expect me to. If I oblige someone's request, it's based off of my own self-conscious decision, not because I should call a "person whatever they ask you to."

No you’re wrong
That thing & things like it are a curse on society

Anything & everything shouldn’t be allowed
That’s partly why the western world is in such turmoil & decline.

Horrible comparison.

The cultural and societal expectations are that children call their friends parents Mr. and Mrs. XXX or ma'am or sir.

When I was growing up, I called my friends parents Mr. and Mrs. XXX. But, as I got older and knew them better, I actually started to call them "mom and dad." I have one friend, whom I have known for like 30+ years, since Ive been like 7 years old. These days, I don't even knock on the door when going to his parents home. I just walk in and I'm like "Hey, mom and dad." I go into the refrigerator without even asking, etc. Would I do this the first day I met them? Of course not. But after 30 years, they actually encourage and expect it.

I hate this whole "I am expected or obligated to do X" just because some person, whom I have never met, asks. Everyone situation is different. I may or may not oblige that person's request, depending on the context.

If you were the counter guy at Game Stop when this individual came in, would you call him sir or ma'am?

Probably neither. When I was a teenager and worked for a department store, I usually just said, "Hi, how are you."

To be honest, knowing today's political climate, I would call them neither, as I would want to avoid a confrontation. That is what is happening in society. One wrong slip, you're fired, then can never find another job based on one video. One has to be very careful these days.

Not at all. Politeness and proper etiquette apply to both situations. Just answer the very simple question, should you call someone by what they ask you to or not?

If I were the manager or the owner of that store, I'd fire the clerk for arguing with the customer and fueling the ruckus that ensued.

This a different situation, but it goes to show that the customer is always right.

Sucks that the cashier wasn't Squadfather - the snide remarks and resulting meltdown would have been worse than 9/11.

How many countless number of people of all colours have wrongly been asked to leave
Various places - It’s Happened to me - I wasn’t happy about it at the time - Only in the
Grand scheme of things it’s one of those things that happen - people make mistakes.

If you can call a shoplifter a customer than there are situations when the customer is wrong.
