It's a reasonable comparison.

Supposedly, we live in a society driven by money. The wealthier one is, the more respected they are. For example, Trump gets much respect from some people for his (supposed) enormous wealth and gets away with saying what he pleases. There is no reason Tom Ford shouldn't too. Additionally, both men are celebrities in their own right.
