I bumped the "Hungary's Wall Works" thread in hopes that at least one left leaning person could answer my hypothetical scenario when applied to their own life, considering the fact that Congress OK'd $10.8B for Mexico and Central America to strengthen their borders while not granting $5.7B for Trump to do the same for our own.  Since you feel so strongly this should be easy to justify

As for Trump not getting "his" wall, you might be right.   If he gets re-elected he absolutely will get it though, because moderates and even some Dems don't agree with how crazy some of this "Democratic" socialism stuff is; and they will turn out come 2020.  Like I said, midterms were likely something a lot of Independents that lean right like me took for granted.  I think a lot of us bought into the "red wave".  Whoops!   I'm in a red state, so my stupidity in not voting luckily didn't matter here.

If Trump loses, the wall will be built......it'll just take another term or so of Dems having the POTUS position to spin it as to why we need it then, but didn't now.  Remember, Chucky is on video from 2009 saying the same stuff Trump is now.  As you said Che....politics

I know the Atlantic is not to your taste but that should not prevent you from reading the article unless you can not countenance the idea that some property owners will make a financial killing from the proposed wall and using fundamental capitalist tools and tactics to do so

I just read the excerpt posted, not the whole article, and I admit it's upsetting how people with money can use the legal system to become wealthier just because the nation is trying to protect itself, while common folk get actual value or even less.  That's not right.  If the land being claimed as eminent domain has an increased value due to it being developed/for business purposes then fine...they should get more $.  Otherwise, it should be a calculated figure that is fair and standardized for all that lose a part of their property.  

Those battling on the grounds of "environmental or animal welfare" concerns need to STFU.  Birds can fly over it, rivers can flow through (and monitored), and other wildlife will just have to adjust.  I don't care if the majestic mexican-american antelope or whatever will no longer exist.
