First Bill Hicks, then Patrick Swayze, now this poor fella...  :'(

"According to the American Cancer Society, the 5-year survival rate for people with stage 4 pancreatic cancer is approximately 1 percent"

"The median survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer is between two and six months. Though the disease cannot be cured at this stage, treatment may improve your quality of life"

I can’t even begin to imagine the fear the man must be experiencing.

None of us know what’s coming for us.

When the reaper comes-a-calling, that’s that.

Sad to see this.  If I were Alex I wouldn't even bother with chemo or radiation.

I agree. At my age I have seen more than my share of friends dying from various cancers. Pancreatic is no joke. and Stage 4.. doctors tell you stage 5 is death. It's over. Enjoy what you have left

I don't know anyone who ever "beat"/survived stage 4 pancreatic cancer, or any type of stage 4 cancer for that matter.

Add me to that list. There is no "battle" at that point. It is just which path do you wish to pursue. One that you can enjoy what remains of your short life or one that might prolong it a year but you will be miserable...

MY brother inlaw has stage 4 cancer. (I believe stage 4 means its in many places in the body).
After 6 years of treatments, Dr. said last month "You are 100% cancer free".

So, he was fairly happy, but not fully since it is so early. AT least happy it has trended the correct way.
Goes back for a checkup 1 month later, Dr. said "spoke too soon, still seeing spots on your liver". (I think his name is Dr. Buzzkill).

A bit of a let down, but again, at least has trended in the right direction, and I see this also going away soon. (How many cancer patients are 250 lbs,and haven't lost an ounce of weight)?
Pancreatic is a death sentence though, not many (or no one I think) has ever survived it for too long).

God speed Alex...

That's what I would hate most about cancer, the yo-yo daily up and down of not knowing if and when it's going to come back.  Even if you are told you are cancer free you are always waiting for the hammer to fall again.

My aunt was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphatic cancer in 2018.  She went through all the horrible, torture of treatments.  6 months after that, doc says cancer is gone.  Last month her tests show it's back and it has spread to many other parts of her body.  She is terminal of course.  These cancer treatments are archaic, they ruin your immune system and 90% of the time, they don't work.

Watching the news yesterday and they say the second man with hiv has been cured. How come they can’t cure cancer?I truly believe there is a cure but for obvious reasons the hospitals and big pharma don’t want that known. But with the rich dying I’m second guessing myself cause would t they take advantage of the rich dying and take all there money to cure them?

I've seen this happen so many times.  Surgery seems to be the only method that works and that's only if the cancer is localized.  Chemo and radiation are toxic and even if you live a little longer you are sick as Hell and miserable so what's the point?  The pain for your friends and family is probably worse than it is for you.

I fear for Alex Trebek's health. :(

In the Ronnie Coleman documentary on Netflix, Ronnie stated that his mother passed away from pancreatic cancer recently.

I've heard for years they can cure cancer, but blah blah blah... It's a totally ridiculous argument and I am glad you are second guessing that position.

Maybe messing with DNA and genetic programming will lead to the cure?  Anybody know much about this kind of stuff?  I've been told the answer will lie within DNA and finding a way to formulate treatments that attack the cancerous growths.

My limited knowledge of Cancer comes from a few friends either dying from it or surviving it. Many people talk of cancer like it is one thing. Why can't they cure cancer? Well from my understanding cancers come in a variety of forms, and what one type responds to, another type doesn't, And whats worse is cancer can be evolving, where early on, a particular treatment has good results. The Cancer then adapts and the same treatment no longer has an effect.

I agree.

Years ago one of my neighbors was an Oncology Nurse.  One day she came over and told me that she had Pancreatic Cancer and while the staff would do all it could for her and that she would submit to treatment,  she said she knew she was done for.  She went quickly but bravely and I wept at her attitude and to this day hope her faith took her home.
