Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are among dozens of parents, sports coaches and college prep executives accused of carrying out a national conspiracy to get students into prestigious colleges, according to a massive federal indictment.

The purpose of the alleged scam was to help student athletes get into college as recruited athletes, regardless of their athletic ability, according to the indictment. It alleges that a third party took the ACT and SAT college entrance exams in place of students. The documents also allege that some defendants created fake athletic profiles for students to make them appear to be successful athletes and get them into college.and they were arrested

It's like the colleges giving athletic scholarships to the athletes who can't read and got 490 total on the SAT.

Awesome.

Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin among dozens charged in alleged college cheating scam
By Eric Levenson and Mark Morales, CNN

Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are among dozens of wealthy parents, elite college coaches and college prep executives accused of carrying out a national conspiracy to get students into prestigious colleges, according to a massive federal indictment.
Federal prosecutors said the scheme had two major pieces. In the first part, parents allegedly paid a college prep organization to take the test on behalf of students or to correct their answers. Second, the organization allegedly bribed college coaches to help admit the students into college as recruited athletes, regardless of their actual abilities, prosecutors said.
The documents also allege that some defendants created fake athletic profiles for students to make them appear to be successful athletes.

In all, 50 people were charged in the criminal investigation that went by the name "Operation Varsity Blues." Those arrested include two SAT/ACT administrators, one exam proctor, nine coaches at elite schools, one college administrator and 33 parents, according to Andrew Lelling, the US attorney for Massachusetts.

I wonder if Lakehead U was involved with this conspiracy.

"Parents paid up to $6.5 million to get their kids into college"

At that point, why not just give the $6.5 million right to the kid. IT's not likely they'd make that much after graduating... especially regarding they were too stupid to legitimately get into college in the first place.

Can someone explain why this is a big deal?

You use to just donate $100k to get your kids through school.

Affirmative Action sends all kinds of undeserving people to college.

First things first.  I'd fuck both of these girl's with wreckless abandon.

Second, if your child isn't up to the standards of a particular university, why in the fuck force them to go there.  You are setting them up to fail.  There are lots of good colleges out there other than USC and the like.  This kind of pressure put upon young people is what can often lead to drug abuse, suicide and wreckless life decisions.

No shit!  Set up a trust fund where your flunky kid gets an "allowance" every month so they can't blow it all and they are set up for life.  This also shows how easy it is to graduate once you get in.  Rich kids like this and affirmative action kids who can't get in on their test scores and grades have no problem graduating.  The ivies have a 90% + graduation rate. ::)

You send your dumb daughter to an elite college so she can meet a smart (or rich) guy and marry him.

College-entrance case ensnares Obama family’s tennis instructor

A college tennis coach who also served as the personal instructor for former first lady Michelle Obama and her daughter, Malia, was among the 46 people charged by federal authorities in a sweeping college admissions bribery case announced Tuesday.

According to the indictment unsealed Tuesday by federal prosecutors in Massachusetts, Gordon Ernst, the women’s tennis coach at the University of Rhode Island, is accused of conspiracy to commit racketeering during the years he served as a tennis coach at Georgetown University.

There is no suggestion that Malia, a sophomore at Harvard, was implicated in the scandal in any way.

Yeah, that guy looks fruity as Hell!  I'm sure a strap on is being used on him nightly by his lovely wife or he gets so much sex at work from "male models" that he always is too tired for sex with her.

Are you really that naive?  Most jobs could be performed by high school students.  I doubt these kids were engineering majors.  Political Science, Communications, English, History, Education, Psychology (B.S.degree), Philosophy, Gender Studies, Social Work, etc, are probably their majors.  You know, the really hard stuff.
