Just make sure they are straight and knot free.

The wood can warp and you'll be disappointed

Unless you are going true off road, and you would need the ability to lock out axles, All Wheel Drive is far far better. Some systems are so good they can control instantaneous power separately at all 4 wheels.

I had a Toyota Highlander Hybrid a while ago, btw. 27-30 mpg city, same highway. Quiet as heck too. It handled the snow in Upstate NY like it wasn't there.

I'd put those makes you listed in the SUV category, not 4 x 4.

Out of those, I'd go Lexus. Best quality and service for the cost.

If you're talking a real 4 x 4 truck. Chevy or Ford. Take your pick.

Also, what do you plan on doing with it? Hauling kids, groceries, furniture, a boat? Or just people?

Do you like where there is snow?

Range Rover Sport or Mitsubishi?? How are the two of those even options by one buyer?

The mrs has said what she might like - I have to take her thoughts & £ into consideration
And as we’re not buying new the age & mileage of vehicles is a Factor also.

Just us & a big Dog - My lads or family occasionally.
Trips through Europe to southern Spain.
We live in the country and it’s a bit hilly in & out of our village
Not that we get a lot of snow (thankfully- I hate the stuff) only when we do
It’s very difficult to get in & out without a AWD Vehicle.
That said The Audi TTrs was Fucking worse than useless in the snow 😂😂😂

In & Out is a little overrated but the 4x4 is one of their best options.

Why those brands?  Just for the status of the name?  Lexus is owned by Toyota.  For my money I would get a Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road for a truck, or the 4 Runner for an SUV

My favorite is the Inferno Orange one, but it looks like they aren't offering it for the 2019 models >:(

Black looks dope too though, but it's impossible to keep clean.

P.S. - If you're shopping on name/prestige, how the hell did Mitsubishi make your list Illuminati? :-\

Thoughts on 4 x 4?

Well 4 x 4 = 16.

16 is a good solid number. I liked that movie "Sixteen Candles" with Molly Whatshername.

I stole an ice cream truck when I was 16. I didn't get arrested but I was grounded for six months.

It is 16 - Though now & again its good to push for the extra rep or 2.

You don’t even want to know what I was up to at 16.

Tacoma isn't sold in Europe....

I would go for a first owner 1st generation Volvo XC90 AWD
Plenty on offer, practical, comfortable, very roomy, dealers and parts everywhere, and relatively affordable

Here I am expecting to see the likes of Jeep, etc, and you mention and bunch of awd's from some of the most unreliable manufacturers. If you want new, and a true 4x4, get a 4Runner and lift it.

I don't know that anything is "wrong" with Mitsubishi per se, it's just that all the other brands that you listed are considered somewhat high end in the states.....or high end middle class/low rich let's call it.

Mitsubishi on the other hand is a college chick's car brand here, of something a middle class parent would give their 16 yr old as a first car.  When you mention Mitsubishi here, most people think of the Eclipse coupe, which I'm not sure if they even make anymore.

Bummer.  Solid truck, brand, and service here in the states.

Is the 4 Runner or FJ? Toyota at all for that matter?  Here's some older FJ's https://www.carfax.com/Used-Toyota-FJ-Cruiser_w648
