Brazilian scientist...  ::) Faulty study. 30 people leads to too much variation. And also they should only target one muscle group to make the study more specific and precise.

Need to have thousands of test subjects. Ie. 1000 people test subjects doing exclusive multijoint excercise, 1000 test subjects doing single joint excersices. And then compare bicep measurements before/after study. Diet being the same for all people in the group. Rep range the same. Exact same conditions for all test subjects.

Ex. one test of 1000 people group doing pullups Only.

One group of 1000 people doing concentration curls, hammer curls, wide grip curls, close grip curls.

Then after 3 months, compare bicep measurement before/after.

Good luck finding a study of that magnitude. Many barriers to conducting such research.

Single joint movements are almost always done from a position of bad leverage , and,
as a result, you can’t use much weight. Hard to see how they would make you stronger.

Probably don't.

I do single joint movements because I am not really training for ultimate strength.

Nonetheless, conducting a study with 1000+ participants, while controlling for all those variables, would be very tough. Researchers are probably working within the parameters of their own constraints.

its hardly news that excercises like tricep pulley and leg exstensions are neither strength nor mass builders

i use them or variations of them as a warm up sometimes and for that they might be beneficial but i certainly dont expect them to make a significant difference to my physique.

I think you get more out of pronating a.k.a. hammer curls. You might not get the bicep peak  but you get the brachioradialis development that you won’t get from supinating. It’s easier on your wrists as well.

I just started doing Hammer Curls a couple of weeks ago.  In well over 4 decades of weight training I have never done them but I can say that I prefer them to the standard DB curls because they don't HURT.  I only do 6 total sets once or twice a week and that's including warmup sets.  ;D

What is the point of leg extensions? Going on the stationary bike would give a better warm-up without putting massive stress on the knee joint.

for arms, big arms I am a fan of 1000s of reps, tons of posings, constant blood flow

for big leg legs/back it is different - hence for arms if you want them grow... do tons of reps.... feeders please :)

I don't think the study is saying that single joint exercise is worthless per se. I think it's saying that if you are doing compound movements then isolation movements are unnecessary.
