I think the most impressive bencher ever was Glen Chabot. I don't know as much on PL as you do, but I never saw such incredible explosion with such massive weight in anyone else.

That dude is scary.

Was hanging with Ed Coan in the warmup room of a strongman expo and the Chabot guy was pacing everywhere looking for some poor sap journalist who’d written a disparaging word.

He finally found him. Cornered him. Was telling him to walk with him out the back door so he could, um, “dismantle him”. Several world-class strength athletes, known names, were pleading with Glen to calm down.

Ed and I were like, Whoa.

As I say, scary.

P.S. And, yeah, he was STRONG. Much more strong and powerful than Wheels. Granted, he had an extra 30-odd pounds on Larry, but still. A much more impressive presser. I’m not sure what happened to him. I don’t think he was mixed up with anything good was my impression from the talk back then.

UPDATE, Dec. 18, 2018: At the request of a prosecutor, the charge against Glen J. Chabot was dropped on Sept. 28, 2018, and the case was dismissed.

SPRINGFIELD -- A former world-class power lifter from Springfield is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly threatening a homeless man with a knife.

Glen J. Chabot, 48, of Wilbraham, pleaded not guilty in Springfield District Court Tuesday to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Following his arraignment on Tuesday, Chabot was released on personal recognizance and told to stay away from the alleged victim.

He is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on June 19.

A Springfield native, Chabot began lifting weights as a teenager and emerged as a dominant figure on the national power lifting scene in the late 1990s.

You heard right man. he used to work out at the same gym i did in early 2000. He was a beast. By far the biggest and strongest person i had ever seen real. He ended up suffering a pec tear but was still in really good shape, he looked more like bb, all cut up. Then i stopped seeing him, and his juice supplier told me he had succumbed to crack and coke. I couldn't believe it. A friend of mine saw him yrs later and said he couldnt believe it was him. He was literally a shadow of his former self.

A guy on Outlaw Powerlifting mentioned that Chabot had a rep as a drug/steroid scammer alledgedly around Mass too. He mention that his friend was buying some stuff off him and Chabot told him it came up missing, but every was cool, and as long as he paid again he'd get his stuff. The poor schmuck fell for it again.

I vividly recall that thread:

Exchanging Blows With a Homeless Man

I recall that the thread went on to become a 60+ page behemoth.

I hope someone fixed it to "Exchanging Blowjobs With a Homeless Man".

The picture doesn't show. I saw his Facebook page. He looks nothing like his former self. His FB updates are random, poorly written, disjointed ramblings, the type of statements typical of a drunk, high, and/or mentally challenged person, in all seriousness.

That's sad.

20 seconds in.

Yeah, there were a couple of guys that lived in his area, and would post Chabot updates when people asked. They were always sad in the way that older addicts stories usually are. Car living, bouncing between down and out women, random petty arrests, etc.... The one constant was that he was still a tough guy if challenged or the mood just struck him.

Good Bench Pressers usually have the shitty narrow, sloped shoulders, short arms, giant heads, and are very narrow framed in general.  All is revealed once the drugs are gone.

The narrower the shoulder width and the slopier the shoulders, the better you are at bench.  Its a common genotype for sure.

Giant head? Narrow shoulders? In that case, Phil Heath could be a champion bencher if he got his fat ass off the Hammer Strength press
