I thought so too. Not near his best but still should have won that show.
I think the judges didn't want him to win nine. For whatever reason. He had bursitis in his right triceps that year [sort of stupidly, but from collapsing in "shock" after his eighth Olympia win in 2005], and it was noticeable in 2006.
Other than that, he was a copy of his 2003 form. A bit weathered, given he was older, and the bursitis which impacted his right side, but he still looked great.
Jay looked good too though. Very shredded. At least for Jay's standards. It's more debatable than 2003, where Ronnie made Jay look like an amateur - all the more insane, given that Jay was the clear 2nd place finisher.
In 2005, the IFBB sent a memo to competitors to reduce mass by 15%, while bringing in a smaller waist. So Ronnie reinvented himself by coming in at 275-lb.
I remember on MuscleMayhem, someone said that Ronnie could come in smaller by using less gear. Someone asked "How do you know that?"
Lol! Why would ANY bodybuilder use more gear than they had to, to be a certain size? OBVIOUSLY using less gear would reduce a bodybuilder's weight. Mayhem was so dumb.
Sad about Ronnie these days. I hope he's enjoying his numerous opioid prescriptions. I suspect he has been opioid-dependent for most of this decade. And he talked about his morphine script in a video, so it's not just a wild guess here.
