We use a lot of garlic in my culture.  Very healthy.  Plus, we invented Al Jebra!

Some (in your 'culture') promote camel piss drinking (on Facebook/YouTube) as healthy refreshment  ::)

A cup of raspberries has only 5 grams of sugar and 8 grams of mostly soluble fiber. Sounds good to me. Speaking of veggies, 3.5 cups of broccoli would equal 5 grams of sugar and 8 grams of fiber and has more calories. Funny, right?

Not really, you just used 250% more broccoli in comparison to arrive at those numbers. Raspberries are also the very best fruit you could of used, overall veggies rape fruit in nutrition and its not a debate across the board.

Both types of fiber have benefits.

for example a 100 grams of broccoli has roughly 35 cals and 7 grams of carbs, of which 1.7 a sugar and looking at micros 150% of the RDA of Vitamin C

100 grams of banana has almost triple the calories at roughly 90, 12 grams of sugar and 14% of the RDA of Vitamin C

Rambone if you are going to compare you should use the same amounts should you? I mean otherwise its disingenuous.

I think the best diet would be meat, vegetables, and fruit.

This is my opinion with no scientific basis.

Dude, you’re all over the place. We’re talking about berries, not bananas. I’m sorry you think I’m being “disingenuous” about fruit (oh brother). If you re-read my posts, I’m talking fiber and phytonutrients. 1 cup of raspberries has 64 calories and 8 grams of fiber. 1 cup of chopped broccoli has half the calories but half the fiber and tastes a lot worse. Someone could use raspberries to satisfy their sweet tooth while consuming a dense amount of fiber and do so with a low amount of calories and sugar. I’ve never heard anybody say “I love eating broccoli” in my entire life, and I eat broccoli almost everyday and don’t even eat raspberries, so I honestly don’t care. My initial post wasn’t made to pit veggies vs. fruit. You brought up veggies, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at.

My initial post

Crazy straw man is right. Low sugar berries are fantastic sources of phytonutrients and fiber which many people don’t get enough of. Blueberries are also very good for the brain and can help with memory retention. HTH

And your incorrect response.

They aren't fantastic sources of fiber though, maybe phytonutrients (I would agree with this) but they are poor in all other metrics when compared to veggies or even flax for example. What type of fiber is it as well, that important, soluble or insoluble?

Rambone,

Homophobia, personal attacks, racism, and misogyny are all behaviors that are acceptable to an extent on this forum.

But being disingenuous about phytonutrients crosses the fucking line, and  is something that we will absolutely NOT tolerate here.

Consider this an official warning.

Even the staunchest anti-sugar advocate gives fruit a pass... By why? A normal apple has 20-50 grams of sugar. Five servings of fruit a day? Probably over 100 grams of sugar, any way you alive it.

Some authorities say not to eat more than 25 grams of sugar a day. Everyone loves to hate soda, which has 40-50 grams a can. Whats the difference between eating a couple fruits and drinking a can of soda?

Some people mention the fiber... Do you really believe it "slows absoption"? Subjectively, I don't feel anything to confirm this oft-cited reason, not have I ever seen any research to suggest this.

Micronutrients? Plug fruit into chronometer... It has very little. Eat your vegetables and whatever micros you get from fruit will be a negligible portion of your overall intake. A bunch of spinach, broccoli, carrots, kale, and bell peppers would be a much better investment. Same with phytonutrients, antioxidants, and all the other mystery nutrients that the plant-based gurus prattle on about.

Seriously, I don't get it. Have a candy bar, chocolate bar, or soda and you're killing babies, but remember to get three to five servings of fruit!

If you ever get to live  to senior years fruits its all you probably will tolerate .

I didn't realize we were only using raspberries, other berries are worse and have more sugar.

They aren't great sources of fiber, there are much better sources without the sugar, that's my point. If you want fiber eat psyllium husk
https://scienceofmom.com/2011/12/22/fruits-vs-veggies-are-they-nutritionally-equivalent/

Nutritionally veggies are far superior and they have less bad shit, namely sugar. What phytonutrients are you talking about?

Berries are the only thing even close, of them raspberries are the best then it declines in terms of good shit versus bad shit.

You compared raspberries to broccoli and used different amounts in your comparison which is odd is all. I mean whats a better source of protein? chicken or peanuts?

100 grams of chicken has 30 grams of protein roughly and 1 cup of peanuts has 38 grams, clearly peanuts are better!

I used multi-quotes to refresh your memory since I initially only mentioned berries, and you started rambling about broccoli and bananas. It looks like you need to up your blueberry intake to combat your memory loss and poor comprehension skills.

Blueberry supplementation improves memory in older adults
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/20047325/

Now you’re bringing up chicken vs peanut protein and psyllium husk? Oh brother! I didn’t say berries were the most superior source of fiber on the planet. I said they were a good source of fiber. It’s funny how the Mayo Clinic agrees with me, but Getbigger “Necrosis” is implying that I’m wrong, and sugar is “bad shit”. That statement is a very weak generalization and very dogmatic sounding. Are you a low sugar zealot?

Fructose, Obesity, and Related Epidemiology
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3024838/
“Furthermore, meta-analyses of limited data have shown that fructose at doses consumed by the majority of persons in the United States will lower HbA1c and marginally, although not significantly, improve insulin sensitivity and fasting plasma triglycerides.”

You need to brush up on your berry research. Berries have anthocyanidins, anthocyanins, ellagic acid, flavonoids, and resveratrol. Are you going to disagree with that, too? With your flawed logic, you’ll probably compare blueberries with red wine to compare resveratrol content since that’s how your mind wanders in this thread....

meltdown!!! lololol.

my comparison was making fun of your comparing 1 cup of raspberries to 3.5 cups of broccoli lolol. sorry if that was lost on you.

I am going to have to ask you to calm down, you are arguing strawmen here, I didn't even comment on blueberries and I agree blueberries are great.  Berries are great! but veggies are better! I could provide ample papars on sulforaphane alone that would bury anything on blueberries and all its polyphenols.

You are punching above your weight, I'll give you points for how much spunk you have though. Fructose lowers HBA1C by replacing glucose, its non insulinogenic as I said earlier, which makes sense. I would have to go through the heterogeneity of that meta-analysis to draw meaningful conclusions, all of them aren't created equal.

The blueberry studies are useless as well, would other antioxidants do as well, what are the diets like etc. its a correlation study.

I want you to relax ok... I am correct, veggies are better, berries are the best fruit by a landslide. relax.
