do you think junkies get more outta life?
« on: July 08, 2019, 12:39:00 PM »
well maybe not those who hit rock bottom, but the average junkie who get by and do drugs all the time, there's lot of HIGHS in their life

compare that to a typical working man, well, there's not a lot of highs in his life... maybe the game on tv... maybe once in a while his wife will stop bitching at him...

Good question.

Based on being fat for 19 months - I would say no.

The benefits of not being fat exceed the highs of being indulgent, IMO.

No. The type you're describing only exist in phases. You may have seen a junkie keeping it together but it's only for that moment in their life. All junkies experience the ups and downs of addiction sooner or later it comes to an end with a permanent down or sobriety. Dont be fooled.

Average bloke leaves school at 16, grafts till he’s 67 (or whatever the state pension age is by then) probably has about 5 weeks leave from work a year, 51 x 5 weeks is just under 5 years. Only 5 years of freedom to do what he wants without the worry of work. If you are lucky enough to live till 72 you’ve had 10 years total to enjoy life although the retirement years are likely at severely reduced enjoyment do to being old and knackered. Even if a junkie or an alcoholic lives to 31 he’s still had a far more amount of free time than the working man ever will, he’s got to lie about fucked up on drugs or pissed mortal all day which is what he enjoys doing best in life so he’s happy.

Gentlemen, where is your learning?

From John Stuart Mill, Utilitarianism (Ch. 2): "It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pawg satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pawg, are of a different opinions, it is because they only know their side of the question."

The junkie satisfies only lower or "foolish" inclinations. Better to be a productive person, if not for oneself (who might feel unhappy in the unrelenting toil) then for the benefit of others (greatest happiness principle). Now, as for the question of whether having sex with pawgs makes one happy, I leave that response for the BMC aficionados.

imagine being a steroid user + cocaine + weed + alcohol

compare that to a typical working man with kids, now that is a life wasted!

If he has the need to get high, than there must be some problems he wants to escape from.
The average joe who doesnt need drugs to live well, is a wiser man.

so if you try a drug, like how it feels, then you need to escape a problem?

not sure how that follows

The 'highs' you write about are artificial and don't compare to natural highs. Further, the effects of certain drugs diminish with continued usage.

I take it you've never been typical or had the privilege of having and kids. Most of us who have do not consider our lives wasted, rather it is enhanced.

but it falls shorts on the experience of drugs.

you cant just emulate the feeling of LSD, ecstacy etc and think that state is possible to reach naturally or even more so.

if you got family and kids the need for drugs should be bigger, not smaller.

so how do you naturally emulate the effects of drugs? be it cocaine, steroids, morphine, alcohol etc?

imagine that - "no doctor, im fine! i dont need pain killers, i just think positive thoughts!"

My workmate who has a history of drug use says the same as you mention here, the feeling to a new user is almost magical, at least on par with the greatest times of your life but also says it’s never quite as good and you spend the whole time chasing the feeling of those first few time

You're reasoning is convoluted. Many years ago, I had a very positive and unique to me experience with LSD. However, once was enough. Alcohol quickly becomes a downer for me. Ecstasy is emotionally damaging and users often suffer depression, confusion, severe anxiety, paranoia, psychotic behavior and other psychological problems. -Explains why I've not used it.

Truth is, I've said I don't want or need pain killers to my doctor following surgery. The power of thought is great when you are able to employ it. Why would you want to emulate the effects of the drugs you've mentioned? Natural highs are wonderful. You should give them a try.

you should write a book, you could put the drug companies outta business.

"the natural way to replace lsd, cocaine, steroids, ecstacy, heroine and much more" now on amazon.

well some of their life sucks.

the part where theyre not high.

but thats just the thing - maybe their times being high is so great that it triumphs regular joes lives.
