Someone doing roids doesn’t bother me, as I usually won’t know. But smoking is horrible and I hate smelling it or having my clothes stink.
This is sort of what I'm getting at. It is aggressively unpleasant to be around someone who smokes. The smoking stinks and they retain that odor. It is potentially lethal to the smoker's health and there is evidence to suggest it is detrimental to those around them. There are no health benefits to smoking nicotine based cigarettes. Even though there are places you can't smoke and half of all smokers are in a constant state of trying to quit, people are pretty open about smoking. Walking down almost any block in my city, you can see at least one person smoking.
As for steroids, there are health risks, but there are plenty of benefits, too. People who use performance enhancing drugs are usually pretty dodgy about it. Even when talking to people familiar with fitness. If they admit to use, they are always barely using or just using maintenance trt doses or they built up a solid base before using. And people familiar with fitness are pretty dismissive and critical or people who they suspect of using steroids. For the most part, it is not offensive just to be in the presence of someone who uses steroids.
So, it's interesting how the two are perceived. I'm not sure steroids are more stigmatized, but I think when comparing their pros and cons, it's interesting how they are perceived.
