The headline reads: Robert Conrad of 'The Wild Wild West' dead at 84. This is a common way of reporting a death in the news. It seems overly dramatic, as if dying is surprisingly unusual for someone who is 84 years old. Much as I wish it weren't so, we older people die at a faster rate then those who are younger. Some would say living to be 84 years old is something of a feat. The overall age of death in 2019 in the U.S. was 78.9, worldwide in 2015 it was 71. Women tend to live longer than men. Robert Conrad outlived the average life expectancy. Good for him. May he rest in peace.

True. RIP

The Wild, Wild West and Jingle All the Way Actor Robert Conrad Dead at 84

Robert Conrad, best known as the star of popular 1960s television series The Wild Wild West has died. He was 84. The news of Conrad's passing was confirmed by family spokesman Jeff Ballard (via 1010 WINS) who said that actor had died at his home in Malibu, California with heart failure being given as the cause of death.

Conrad was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 1, 1935 and worked as a milkman while he pursued a career as a nightclub singer. In 1958, Conrad moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and soon after landed his first major television role as Tom Lopaka in Hawaiian Eye in 1959. Following success on Hawaiian Eye, Conrad starred as Secret Service agent James T. West in The Wild Wild West which ran from 1965 to 1969 on CBS. Conrad did most of his own stunts in the series, and was inducted into the Stuntman's Hall of Fame in 2010 for his work. When The Wild Wild West was turned into a film in 1999 starring Will Smith, Conrad wasn't fond of the remake. Conrad called the remake "horrible" and "pathetic" and appeared in person at the Razzie Awards to accept three of the awards bestowed upon the film.

Following the success of television's The Wild Wild West, Conrad went on to have an expansive career in television, appearing in a wide variety of other television series as well as television films. Conrad also worked as a writer, director, and producer of television, including the short-lived High Mountain Rangers. He also appeared in the music video for Richard Marx's "Hazard" in the 1990s.

“There are three cycles in showbiz,” Conrad told PEOPLE in 1988. “They don’t know you, then they love you, and then you’ve been around so long they hate you. Now I’m starting all over again.”

Outside of television, Conrad also appeared in a number of theatrical films as well, including 1979's The Lady in Red, 1994's Samurai Cowboy, and 1996's Jingle All the Way in which he played Officer Hummell. His most recent film credit is 2002's Dead Above Ground. Conrad was also the host of a weekly, two-hour national radio talk show, The PM Show with Robert Conrad which he began hosting in 2008. His final appearance on the radio show was last July.

According to PEOPLE, a private service honoring Conrad is scheduled for March 1, which would have been the actor's 85th birthday. He is survived by 18 grandchildren and eight children.

VETERAN actor Orson Bean has died aged 91 after being struck by a car while crossing the street in Los Angeles.

The Desperate Housewives star, who also appeared in Being John Malkovich, is believed to have died at the scene on Friday night.

According to TMZ, the actor was allegedly jaywalking in the beach side community of Venice when he was clipped by one vehicle and then struck by another.

Both vehicles are reported to have remained on the scene and TMZ claims police are investigating to see if any charges will be laid.

Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Brian Wendling told ABC News: "The car coming westbound did not see him and clipped him and he went down.

"A second vehicle was coming up, was distracted by people trying to slow him down and then looked up and then a second traffic collision occurred and that one was fatal."

Orson is survived by his wife of 27 years Alley Mills, and their four children - Susannah, Ezekiel, Michele and Max.

Orson played Roy Bender in the hit series Desperate Housewives from 2009-2012.

He also appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and was a frequent contestant on To Tell The Truth and Match Game.

"In the parlance of the twentieth century, this is an oddball. His name is James B. W. Bevis, and his tastes lean toward stuffed animals, zither music, professional football, Charles Dickens, moose heads, carnivals, dogs, children, and young ladies. Mr. Bevis is accident prone, a little vague, a little discombobulated, with a life that possesses all the security of a floating crap game. But this can be said of our Mr. Bevis: without him, without his warmth, without his kindness, the world would be a considerably poorer place, albeit perhaps a little saner...Should it not be obvious by now, James B. W. Bevis is a fixture in his own private, optimistic, hopeful little world, a world which has long ceased being surprised by him. James B. W. Bevis, on whom Dame Fortune will shortly turn her back, but not before she gives him a paste in the mouth. Mr. James B. W. Bevis, just one block away from The Twilight Zone."

Nanny McPhee Star Raphael Coleman Dies At 25

Raphaël Coleman, a former child actor best known for his role in Nanny McPhee, has died at age 25. Coleman passed away, his mother confirmed on Twitter. Born in September 1994, Coleman won the role of Eric in Nanny McPhee when he was just 10 years old. He would go on to star in a few more movies in the following years, but had been largely out of the film business since 2009. He continued to do advertising work, and in 2017 he wrote, directed, and edited a music video, according to his IMDb biography. British newspapers are reporting that he collapsed unexpectedly during a run.

Coleman attended the University of Manchester in 2013, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree for Zoology. He would go on to spend the rest of his life working in conservation, with his mother sharing a statement of purpose he had written for Extinction Rebellion along with her remembrance of her late son.

"Rest in peace my beloved son Raphael Coleman, aka Iggy Fox," his mother -- writer Liz Jensen -- shared on Twitter Friday. "He died doing what he loved, working for the noblest cause of all. His family could not be prouder. Let’s celebrate all he achieved in his short life and cherish his legacy."

The environmental group to which Coleman dedicated his life is not an uncontroversial one, and as "Iggy Fox," he was one of their earliest and most vocal supporters. Coleman reportedly organized social media and other messaging for the group.

After his 2005 debut in Nanny McPhee, Coleman would have a big year in 2009, appearing in It’s Alive, The Fourth Kind, and Edward’s Turmoil. He went on to win the award for best young actor at the British Independent Film Festival in 2010.

In Nanny McPhee, which also starred Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Angela Lansbury, Widower Cedric Brown (Firth) hires Nanny McPhee (Thompson) to care for his seven rambunctious children, who have chased away all previous nannies. Taunted by Simon (Sangster) and his siblings, Nanny McPhee uses mystical powers to instill discipline. And when the children's great-aunt and benefactor, Lady Adelaide Stitch (Lansbury), threatens to separate the kids, the family pulls together under the guidance of Nanny McPhee. A box office success, the film eventually got a sequel -- but it was five years later and had none of the same kids in it.

Our thoughts go out to Coleman's family and friends.

GoFundMe Raising Money for Family of Marvel Stuntman Who Died at 54

Marvel Studios stuntman Brian “Sonny” Nickels died in January at the age of 54, and now a GoFundMe page is raising money to help support Nickels’ family following his loss. Nickels from sudden cardiac arrest while at his home in West London. He’s survived by his wife, Simone, and his two children, seven-year-old Sienna and 3-year-old Rocco. The GoFundMe, launched by David Garrick, has raised £18,095 of its £500,000. “Our great beautiful kind wonderful Brian Sonny Nickels tragically, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away due to cardiac arrest. Leaving his 33 year old wife, 7 year old daughter, and 3 year old son,” Garrick writes on the GoFundMe page. Due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances his young widow Simone and their two young children are left with a substantial mortgage on their house which won’t be paid off. Simone solely worked for Brian for the past 11 years, and is struggling to work at the minute as she has a 7 year old and 3 years old to look after.

“Nothing financially was put into place or implemented as Brian's death was not expected or anticipated. Brian would be the first person to help any of us in need. Simone & Sienna watched and heard Brian graphically passing away, young Rocco is extremely confused and there is no counselling available as he is so young. Simone’s focus needs to be on their precious babies and getting them through this horrific and traumatic time. Their whole world has been turned upside down with the loss of a husband and father, please let’s all work together and help take all the financial pressure off her for some time, and raise as much money as we possibly can for Brian's wife and two young babies to completely take away any financial worries or burdens they may be facing. Let the kindest, love and great legacy of wonderful Brian Nickels live on through all of us.”

Nickels is a former boxer who fulfilled his dream of becoming a stuntman when he switched careers at age 25. His work for Marvel Studios included appearances in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Outside of the Marvel cinematic universe, Nickels’ film work included appearances in the James Bond films Skyfall and Spectre, Jason Bourne, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Hobbs & Shaw, Kingsman: The Golden Circle and both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He also worked in television, appearing in Life on Mars, Band of Brothers, Top Boy, Peaky Blinders, Killing Eve and Game of Thrones.

Another Night Court star passes away...

I'm always curious as to how someone like Harry Anderson, born the same year as John Goodman, can pass away before him, despite none of the history of obesity.   Especially given that Goodman has admitted to a history of cocaine use, and a 30-year history of alcohol, only quitting in 2007 when he weighed 385-lb.  Genetics are an interesting thing.

Goodman will be 68 in June.  My mom thinks he can make it to 75-80.  That would be crazy to me if it happens.  We're talking about a man who spent decades close to 400-lb, if not over 400-lb.

I don't think so, but I doubt she'd ever admit to such a thing even if it was true.

Regarding your question though...check out the blurb here starting at 3:22...is it just me, or is she suggesting there is nothing Goodman's wife would find attractive about him?:

Giorgos Kapetanakis

He passed away today - as we are informed and we have been cross-crossed from his circle - an iconic figure of Greek bodybuilding, Giorgos Kapetanakis.

Champion of the 1980 and 1990, with multifaceted action and always active in the iron sport.
President of map (Panhellenic Association of physical physique athletes) created by athletes in 1989 with rich action, Vice-President of wabba international, President of the jury, columnist in magazines such as musclemag, owner of Adonis Gym and food supplements store, athletes coach , race presenter, are the pieces that complete the puzzle of the great George Kapetánakē with a valuable offer from the many posts he has passed.

But for those who knew him best and knew the man George, romantic, dreamer with special sensitivities for life but also the sport that highlighted him and he represented him.
As of today, Greek bodybuilding is more "poor".
God rest him, good strength to his family.

" I wrote songs about friends who of all kinds of reflections in the áxaphnous were lost like the survivors.
But for those who by our side continue, I am still looking for the rhythms they will deserve."

Best Regards, goodbye George Kapetanakis.

Lord of the Rings Artist Barbara Remington Dies at 90

Barbara Remington, a prolific illustrator and designer whose work included iconic covers of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, has reportedly passed away at the age of 90. Remington is best known for illustrating Ballantine Books' paperback editions of Tolkien's fantasy novels, which began to be published in 1965 and quickly gained a cult status amongst readers. According to The New York Times, Remington died on January 23rd in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, with her longtime friend John Bromberg citing breast cancer as the cause of death.

As Remington revealed in an interview with Andwerve, her work on the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit covers came about on a very tight deadline.

"Ballantine was in a hurry to get these books out right away,” Remington revealed. “When they commissioned me to do the artwork, I didn’t have the chance to see either book, though I tried to get a copy through my friends. So I didn’t know what they were about. I tried finding people that had read them, but the books were not readily available in the states, and so I had sketchy information at best.”

“When Tolkien saw the fruit tree, he asked, ‘What are pumpkins doing in a tree?’ Of course they weren’t pumpkins, but he wasn’t sure what they were,” Remington added. “He was especially perplexed about the lion on the cover because there are no lions in the story. He requested that Ballantine remove the lions from the cover, so they painted them over for later books.”

While Remington might not have read Tolkien's body of work before designing the iconic covers, she had since grown to become a fan of his work.

"After reading his work, I was in awe of Tolkien,” Remington revealed. “I knew there was something special about him. If I read ‘The Lord of the Rings’ first, I don’t think I could have drawn the cover art.”

Remington was born on June 23, 1929 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to an artist father and a political activist mother. She began serving as a freelance illustrator and designer in the 1950s, with a career that also included work in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, and issues of the iconic children's magazine Highlights.

After divorcing her first husband, Remington became heavily involved in New York's beatnik subculture. She became known in the community for her homemade crafts and supplies shop, which she opened with her second husband in the late 1960s. She also developed a reputation for welcoming anyone to stay at her East Village loft, and for creating sketches of performers at the Max's Kansas City nightclub. Decades later, Remington moved to Thompson, Pennsylvania. She is not survived by any immediate family members.

Drew Carey's Ex-Fiancee Amie Harwick Murdered in Hollywood Hills

Drew Carey's ex-fiancee, Dr. Amie Harwick, has been murdered after cops say an ex-boyfriend attacked her and caused her to fall from a third-story balcony.

Law enforcement sources say they got a call early Saturday morning of a woman screaming in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood. Cops were met in the street by Harwick's roommate, who said she was being assaulted inside her home.

We're told once officers attempted to get inside Harwick's home, they found her unresponsive underneath a third-story balcony, with injuries consistent with a fall. Harwick was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Cops say evidence suggested there was forced entry and a struggle inside Harwick's home before she was discovered. Investigators located surveillance footage in the neighborhood and determined the suspect was a white male dressed in black.

Detectives learned Harwick had recently expressed concerns about an ex-boyfriend -- who she once had a restraining order against -- causing her harm. Cops say the restraining order ended just two weeks ago and Harwick had recently seen the ex.

Cops arrested the ex, Gareth Pursehouse, Saturday afternoon and booked him for murder.

Drew and Harwick started dating in 2017 and announced their engagement in early 2018. However, they split less than a year later.

Recess Voice Actor Jason Davis Dies at 35

Jason Davis, the beloved voice actor behind Mikey Blumberg on Disney's Recess, has died. Davis' family announced the news Sunday night in a statement obtained by Variety. He was 35. Along with lending his voice to the 90s cartoon hit — which is streaming in its entirety on Disney+ — Davis appeared in Rush Hour, Beverly Hills Ninja, and Mafia! The actor had recently formed Cure Addiction Now, a non-profit organization formed to help fund research into those suffering from substance abuse.

“I am so heartbroken to share the saddest news of my life that my son Jason Davis passed away this morning in Los Angeles," the Davis family statement reads. "Jason had a true heart of gold with such a zest for life. He was such a caring soul to everybody who ever knew him. He loved his friends and his family above all else. We ask for privacy as we take time to grieve this most devastating loss."

Davis also appeared in a handful of Recess spinoff movies including School's Out, Taking the Fifth Grade, and All Growed Down. The character eventually crossed over with Lilo & Stitch on the Disney franchise's Disney Channel series. In total, Davis voiced Mikey Blumberg in over 120 episodes and three feature films.

His first major credit came as a recurring character on Roseanne, appearing in three episodes. Davis' paternal grandparents, Marvin and Barbara Davis, purchased 20th Century Fox in 1981 before selling it three years later to Rupert Murdoch.

According to Variety, Davis had been working on a series The Two Jasons prior to his death.

Paul English, Longtime Drummer For Willie Nelson, Dies

Paul English, the longtime drummer for Willie Nelson, died at the age of 87 on Tuesday (Feb. 11). Nelson’s publicist confirmed the news of English’s passing to Billboard.

A beloved member of Nelson’s road family since the ’60s, English first played a show with the country legend in 1955 before becoming his full-time drummer in 1966. He played with Nelson up until his death last night. Later in life, English and his younger brother, Billy, shared percussion duties.

According to Austin 360, the drummer died following a recent battle with pneumonia. He was surrounded by friends at family at a hospital near his home in Dallas according to Nelson’s daughter, Amy.

English, a Vernon, Texas native, served as part of the inspiration behind Nelson’s 1971 road song “Me & Paul” featured on Yesterday’s Wine. The nearly four-minute track includes Nelson lamenting of their troubled travels in Nashville, being “almost busted in Laredo, but for reasons that I’d rather not disclose,” and a Milwaukee airport not allowing them on the plane. “They said we looked suspicious/ But I believe they like to pick on me and Paul,” Nelson sings on the song.

In addition to his role as a drummer, English sometimes served as Nelson’s bodyguard. The late drummer was known for his checkered past and has credited Nelson for saving his life. “If I hadn’t gone with Willie, I would be in the penitentiary or dead,” English told Rolling Stone in 2014. “I was running girls and playing music at the same time.”

No funeral arrangements have been announced.

Charles Portis, 'True Grit' Novelist, Dies at 86

Charles Portis, the author whose 1968 novel "True Grit" inspired two beloved big-screen Westerns, died Monday at the age of 86.
The Arkansas native had struggled with failing health for several years, according to his brother, Jonathan, who confirmed the death to the Arkansas Times.

His biggest success was the 1968 novel "True Grit," the story of a young farm girl who hires a drunken lawman to catch the outlaw who murdered her father. They go on a quest along with a Texas Ranger to track down the villain, and on that adventure, the strength of their "grit" is tested.

The novel inspired Henry Hathaway's 1969 film, which earned John Wayne the Oscar for Best Actor. The Coen brothers' 2010 adaptation, starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Hailee Steinfeld, earned 10 Oscar nominations — but went home empty-handed that year.

Portis' other work includes comic fiction like "Norwood," "The Dog of the South," "Masters of Atlantis," and "Gringos," as well as a collection of his shorter works called "Escape Velocity."

Portis was born in 1933 in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Samuel Palmer Portis and Alice Waddell Portis. He served in the Marines during the Korean War before going on to study journalism at the University of Arkansas.

He was a newspaper reporter before going on to write fiction, having written for Fayetteville's Northwest Arkansas Times, Memphis' Commercial Appeal, the Arkansas Gazette, and Newsweek. He went on to become the London bureau chief of the New York Herald-Tribune, according to an obituary his family prepared for the Ruebel Funeral Home which was obtained by to the Arkansas Times.

Ann E. Todd, golden age child star of Intermezzo and more, dies at 88

Todd’s family announced the news on Sunday. She died from complications of dementia on Feb. 7. As a child, Todd starred in nearly 40 films, appearing opposite Hollywood greats like Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis, Ronald Reagan, Basil Rathbone, Maureen O’Hara, and Edward G. Robinson.

Her most recognizable role came in Bergman’s screen debut, 1939’s Intermezzo, as a young pianist and the daughter of Leslie Howard’s Holger Brandt, a married violinist falling for Bergman’s accompanist. Todd also notably portrayed Charles Boyer’s child in 1940’s All This, and Heaven Too, where Bette Davis acted as her governess. She played a younger version of Linda Darnell in Blood and Sand, as well as one of Jeanette MacDonald’s daughters alongside Elinor Donahue and Jane Powell in 1948’s Three Daring Daughters.

Some of Todd’s other notable films include Tower of London with Basil Rathbone, Destry Rides Again with Marlene Dietrich, Dr. Ehrlich’s Magic Bullet with Edward G. Robinson, Kings Row with Ronald Reagan, and How Green Was My Valley with Maureen O’Hara.

Her final screen role was as one of two daughters on early ABC sitcom The Stu Erwin Show, which ran from 1950-1953.

Todd was born Ann Phillips on Aug. 26, 1931. She made her film debut in 1938’s Zaza starring Claudette Colbert, but after her success as a young actress, she left Hollywood entirely and moved to Berkeley, Calif., where she eventually obtained a Master’s in library science in 1959 and an MA in 1960.

She went on to work as a reference librarian at U.C. Berkeley from 1960-61 and then again from 1970-90. In 1951, she married Robert David Basart, a music professor and contemporary music composer she met in Berkeley. They were happily married until his death in 1993.

In addition to her work as a librarian, Todd founded Fallen Leaf Press in 1974, a small press dedicated to music reference books and scores. They published 70 works before she closed the business in 2000. In 1993, the Music Library Association honored Todd with a lifetime achievement citation.

She is survived by her daughter Kathryn, son Nathaniel, and three grandchildren.

Demtards memory banks - RIP 2020:

Trump was right on Iran. Democrats are suffering from mass amnesia.

The commander in chief took out the world’s most notorious terrorist, one with plenty of American blood on his hands.
Trump is the good guy here.

Scott JenningsOpinion contributor

I have spent the past 20 or so New Years’ Eves glued to the SyFy channel’s “Twilight Zone” marathon. My wife and I love the writing, the plots and picking out famous actors in their one-off roles for the classic television series.

Maybe I’ll write an episode of my own, complete with a Rod Serling-worthy opening monologue: “The year is 2017. Donald Trump is inaugurated as president of the United States, and mass amnesia has washed over America. Half the country can no longer remember anything that happened before Jan. 20. The former president, Barack Obama, is literally sitting right there. Yet, his own party cannot remember one thing about his eight years …”

Obama memory hole
It is one of the strangest phenomena of the Trump era — the memory-holing of Obama’s executive powers. Democrats continuously act as though they’ve just fallen off the Washington turnip wagon when Trump does anything.

Trump’s illegal immigration policies are draconian! He’s deporting too many, they screamed, forgetting that … Obama deported more. A lot more. And, you know those cages on the southern border? Obama built them, not Trump.

Trump’s defying congressional subpoenas! No president has ever stonewalled Congress, they screamed, forgetting that Obama’s attorney general, Eric Holder, was held in contempt of Congress for … defying subpoenas related to the "Fast and Furious" gun operation scandal. There were at least eight other times when Obama’s administration defied congressional oversight, even preventing people from testifying (sound familiar?).

--

When Trump announced his “America First” policy during his inaugural, Democrats apparently took it as literally as one can.

Now, they howl over Trump’s latest outrage: The airstrike that killed Iranian terrorist Qasem Soleimani, the general who was in Iraq fomenting attacks against the U.S. Embassy and, evidently, plotting future hits on American targets.

--

Washington Democrats whined about Trump authorizing a drone strike without their notification or consent. This, after Obama authorized at least 2,800 drone strikes in Iraq and Syria without congressional approval.

Obama's drone strikes
“When Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2009, he had authorized more drone strikes than George W. Bush had approved during his entire presidency. By his third year in office, Obama had approved the killings of twice as many suspected terrorists as had ever been imprisoned (at) Guantanamo Bay,” Newsweek reported.

Obama practically invented modern push-button warfare, for goodness’ sake! Eventually, the American people will have to choose between partisan disingenuousness or rank stupidity to explain Democratic reaction to Trump’s perfectly precedented decisions.

On Iran, Trump made a bold choice and sent a strong message that we aren’t going to take the regime’s provocations and hostility anymore. Obama sent them pallets of cash. Trump sent an MQ-9 Reaper.

Anyone who knows how this will all shake out is lying. They don’t. But the commander in chief took out the world’s most notorious terrorist, one with plenty of American blood on his hands. Trump is the good guy here, not the terrorist.

Yet, Democrats couldn’t wait to pounce. How many statements included perfunctory “yeah, Soleimani was a bad guy, but … ” construction before hammering Trump?

Here’s a pro tip: If your statement has a “but” in the middle (I’m looking at you, Elizabeth Warren), just eliminate the throat-clearing, political pablum that came before it and say what you really mean. We get it: Iranian Guy Bad, Orange Man Worse.

This attitude will cost Democrats in the upcoming election. Not just on foreign policy, but across the board (they speak of the economy as though we are in another Great Depression). They just can’t give Trump an inch no matter how safe or prosperous the world is, thanks at least in part to the president’s decisions.

It hasn’t always been this way. After the death of Osama bin Laden, Republicans praised Obama’s decision to get him.

“Former Vice President Dick Cheney declared, ‘The administration clearly deserves credit for the success of the operation.’ New York’s former mayor, Rudolph W. Giuliani, said, ‘I admire the courage of the president.’ And Donald J. Trump declared, ‘I want to personally congratulate President Obama,’ ” according to The New York Times.

But no such allowance is given to President Trump when he kills a terrorist. As commentator Guy Benson tweeted, “The U.S. auto industry is alive, and (Abu Bakr) Baghdadi/Soleimani are dead,” referencing the Islamic State leader Trump had killed a few months ago and recalling Obama’s reelection slogan.

Or, as Rod Serling might say, “Democrats will soon wake up from their amnesia to an old lesson: Past is prologue. And it’s a Shakespearean seminar most acutely taken … in The Twilight Zo
