It might surprise some here that I agree with most of these changes to immigration laws.
1. CHANGES IN CITIZENSHIP TEST, AND NEW REASONS FOR DENIALS
Immigrants must prove they can read, write and speak basic English, and have essential knowledge of U.S. history and government. Honestly, I thought these requirements already existed.
2. MORE IMMIGRATION FORMS AVAILABLE FOR ONLINE FILING
Why does it seem like government is often behind the curve? One of these is the application to register permanent residence. Also applications for employment, applying for travel documents, a petition for a non-immigrant worker and asylum applications.
3. The list of unlawful behaviors is expanded to include 15 items. The are obvious violations of the law, which should leave no doubt as to what is required to immigrate to the U.S.
4. Restrictions on public assistance on Individuals who receive public benefits longer than 12 months, within any 36-month period. No more forever free rides.
One thing I disagree with is denying asylum to applicants who fail to apply for asylum in countries traveled through to get to the U.S.
