Don't you think there were other players with the mental strength, drive, determination, and presence of mind as Jordan or was he the only one?

To be that composed, motivated and consistent while being arguably the most famous man on the planet in the 90s?Nearly everyone wouldn't have been able to handle the pressure. Look at everyone else who was arguably as famous as him at the time, Tyson, Woods and Michael Jackson. All cracked under the fame and pressure. Jordans mind is truly one in a million.

Again, genetics. If kobe had Jordans mental strength and calm under pressure he'd have been even better. What separates the athletic elite in the nba is their minds.

Agreed.

Because you also have players like Dion Waiters who think they are the elite of the elite, but lack the actual skill/talent (at the elite of the elite level), it’s a combination of everything.

So only Jordan in the NBA? Not sure how you can determine that but that's impressive. Too bad it didn't work in baseball. Would have been epic.

Wayne Gretzky dominated his team sport more than Michael Jordan ever did.

And Gretzky did it while he was at a distinct physical disadvantage to his peers.

Cant overcome all those missed years playing, he was coming around in his second season of baseball but the draw of the nba and getting used by the mlb during the strike cut the dream short.Jordans need to go hard even every minute of practice was seen as completely abnormal by everyone he played with from UNC right up to his last bulls game.It is one of the most noted things about him, his sick desire to win at all costs.Even cheating at cards against a teammates grandma. You cant teach that.

Not sure how you can compare these guys.

Jackson was a singer and dancer ,who had a thing with boys.

Tyson and Woods played individual sports. If there were a hole in their games, there wasn't teammates to pick up  the slack for them.

Also, since you bring up Tyson ,he had the rape conviction and years taken out of his career, during his 20's  A short explosive heavyweight like him, in a competitive era, is usually done in his early 30's . Kobe ,if we recall, was able to pay his way out of a rape trial . Tyson offered his accusant millions to drop the charges, but she refused. So a degree of chance or luck plays a part in a sportsman's career.

So his unworldly talent even trumped his physical disadvantage? He was quite the twink.

He must have been really, really, composed and motivated.

His unworldly talent trumped his physical disadvantage. On a bad night he couldn’t rely on a god given genetic physical advantage.

His drive and motivation to excel matched or exceeded Jordan.

He was also one of the nicest and most humble athletes in history.

I lived in Chicago and believe me, Michael Jordan was not the saint the media made him out to be.

I meant to write "disadvantage". My bad. I'll edit.

Obviously, in Hawaii, hockey is not a big sport here but everyone knew who Wayne Gretzky was.

I have no doubt, being the gifted athlete that he was, could have been a baseball star if he chose that sport over basketball.

Does this really need to be explained? Really? Kobe wouldn't care if you or I die because he doesn't know us. If he sees our names it would mean nothing to him.
You and I recognize his name and know him because of what he did with his life. The effect he had on billions of people. Is that really so hard to understand? Now it's quite valid to say that you don't care if he died because he didn't know you or you think he was a bad person, but don't presume to speak for the billions of people who do care. You may think it's silly and that's fine just as the vast majority don't agree with you and are affected by it deeply.

Even though I was just twelve years old I remember the impact it made on me when Bruce Lee died. More so than when one of my grandmothers died because I never met her or heard much of her growing up so she had zero impact on my life. Bruce Lee was a huge inspiration to me as a kid.

Good post

Che there is no doubt Kobe worked harder and was more disciplined than almost anyone.  But his genetics and lineage played a large role in his success.

If he was 5’9 from Thunderbay, Canada he may have used that same work ethic to get to the NBA. But he was a 6’7 son of an NBA player with an incredible work ethic. On talent/genetics alone he would have been an NBA player.

Alex Curraso could train twice as hard as Lebron James and he would never be half the player Lebron is.

Tracy McGrady or Vince Carter with Kobe’s work ethic would be at a completely different status today.

All pro athletes train hard. The truly great push themselves to a different level.

Tracy McGrady was too injury prone

Derek Rose too

Tom Brady comes to mind as very similar mindset to Kobe and other elite of the elites

How long until HHWYHI threads are fair game for Vanessa?  Or instead of a deadpool 2020 maybe something like how long until she's fucking?  Or A. How long until she's fucking and B. Will it be back to mudsharking or will she try to cross back over?  I'm woke as fuck and don't want to use improper etiquette.

So you think Tracy McGrady could not train and work as hard Kobe because he was injury prone and that would just accelerate his injuries? Or would the extra work have included preventive training?

If anything this furthers the idea of Kobe's elite genetics/giftings as he was able to push his body further than a typical NBA star could before he broke down. Dirk is another example of extreme dedication although his peak was no where near Kobe's.

Kobe's dead.

Today we're not.

Tomorrow we might be dead.

That's all.

Life is random.
