Pulmonary fibrosis caused by ARDS is a well known phenomenon, and COVID 19 can lead to ARDS.  See the connection?

What are the chances of permanent lung damage due to this virus?

Probably more chance of dying than your condition deteriorating to the point you suffer from irreversible lung damage and survive.

Basically if you need mechanical ventilation and survive (1 in 5 cases) your lungs probably won't ever be the same again.
