RIP - Bob Gruskin - Dead at 83 - 04-14-20

they suspect it was the covid 19 that caused bob gruskin's death april 14. he touched many careers of east coast bodybuilders.

Gruskin was once considered a top steroid procurer in the 80's, early 90's. Wayne Demilia mentioned him having refrigerators of the stuff for his "big, thick, good-looking white guys" :). Source -

Good eye for talent  ;);)all aau guys looked great ,legs were always top notch on them.used to gym come to where I trained in early 90s I trained around a lot of local good bbers then.they all knew him.

Bob had a lot to do with jump starting the careers of many of my friends from back in Springfield Mass.

Jeff,King,Chris Aceto,Pat Hayes Rick Sampson and Rich Roy just to name a few .

I met Bob in the gym back in the 1970s but got to know him much better later on in life when I competed in the NABBA USA bodybuilding organization.

Was always very nice to me and loved reminiscing about King and Aceto and the other guys from our gym.

Was heavily involved in NABBA USA.......lots of conjecture about Bob being gay but he never seemed that way to me and if he was,it is what it is..........he was cool with me.

My first show was promoted by Bob. He said I will be Mr. Universe one day, I didnt believe that at the time but it pushed me to train harder and pursue competing. Compared to NPC, NABBA treated athletes very well and back stage always had plenty of weights, fruits, and water for athletes needs. I didnt know he trained many greats at the time, had I known, perhaps I'd sought his help. He was a great guy and will be missed.

That's what I've always heard, but never any detailed stories. Gruskin was a chemistry professor for one of the city colleges for many years, and supposedly knew how to source, and such. Plus, he had an in with most of the important people, particularly on the east coast because he was around covering contests, doing magazine interviews, etc....

For what it's worth, I never heard anything bad about him either, which is rare, in fact most seem to speak about him in glowing terms. He was like a lower budget Ed Conners it seems.

he was affiliated with those cheap east coast bodybuilding mags in the late 70's early 80's , he held titles like associated editor and such.
