Just out of curiosity, is anyone here an actual medical provider working within a hospital, particularly an acute care setting? I mean a Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or RN? If so, what have you seen? I think it's important to get their point of view, as they're the true eyes on the ground that are seeing firsthand the devastating effects this virus is having on people.
From March 1st to May 15th, this virus has killed 86,000+ Americans. That's 2 months and a half. Multiply that mortality rate by 4 to complete a year and total death rate could reach 430,000+. Spanish Influenza of 1918 killed over 675,000 Americans and certainly was the most devastating Pandemic in the last century, infecting over 500 million people worldwide (3rd of the world's population at that time and killed more than 50 million people worldwide). Times were different in 1918. They didn't have access to the medical advances we have today, medications or equipment. They also didn't have the advanced communication tools we have today (they didn't have Televisions, Computers, Internet, Cell Phones etc). We are in a much better place today.
I think we shouldn't underestimate what this virus is. For some to call it a hoax, lie or bullshit is odd.
I think what the government should do is simple. For those that feel so inclined to go back to business as usual immediately, allow them to do so, but have them legally waive their rights to medical care if they become infected by COVID-19. All others, abide by the laws set by the same people YOU voted into office.
I want to go back to work as much as anyone else, but I'm also not trying to die. A fucking gym can wait. It's a petri dish for infections and building some muscle isn't making anyone any money as a result. But this entire situation is very interesting, first pandemic of our time. It's put into perspective what Politician's truly are, how useless social influencers truly are, what's really important for human beings versus what people are made to believe is necessary due to consumer-driven marketing and for many, it's allowed people a chance to reconnect with family and disconnect from the clutter in between that keeps us "busy".
Remember as well, there have been billions pumped into our economy and furthermore swept into the pockets of the largest companies in the USA (you know, the job creators). While I don't agree that printing money is a good idea, as it does make paper money worthless over time, strange how the citizens of the USA got pennies in comparison to these large companies. Politicians are showings their true colors, from Trump all the way down to your local politicians.
