Are we talking about team sports or individual sports?

Wayne Gretzky is the greatest team sport athlete of all time.

The comparisons aren’t even close.

How would Serena Williams do against Roger Federer  both  in their prime?
Probably 6-0, 6-0 ,6-0  ,Serena would not stand a chance
The answer is No
Agreed. Serena is one of the most accomplished, not absolute best. In mens series, she'd be around 150 at her peak.
Steffi Graf has more Grand Slams than Serena has and back then they didn't pick an choose only the big four tournament but played more non Slam tournaments.

Era is a diffucult thing to weigh in. Hardly notning you can do about it.

Serena Williams is the most dominant athlete male or female that has ever lived. She won her first US Open in 1999 and for 21 straight years not ONE player has a winning record against her, in an era considered to be one of the greatest in women's tennis, from Azareknka to her sister Venus, no one has ever come CLOSE to a winning record. Every single major title on every surface and matches that aren't even close, like 2019 against Sharapova 6-1 6-1. This would be the equivalent of an NBA finals where one team was consistently winning 130-75. And Sharapova is going to be in the hall of fame.

21 straight years no one can beat her. She is pushing 40 years old and took time off to have a baby and is STILL a strong contender to win all majors. Part of this is racial as few blacks play tennis and her athleticism is the equivalent of Jordan playing in an all white NBA.

"Venus and Serena Williams had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked outside the world's top 200, so Karsten Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. Braasch was described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centered around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple of bottles of ice cold lager". The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park, after Braasch had finished a round of golf and two shandies. He first took on Serena and after leading 5–0, beat her 6–1. Venus then walked on court and again Braasch was victorious, this time winning 6–2. Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance". He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun" and that the big difference was that men can chase down shots much easier and put spin on the ball that female players can't handle. The Williams sisters adjusted their claim to beating men outside the top 350."

Bold could have been pronounced GOAT of all athletes had he had WR in the 40s, 60 m.

Bold does no better than Renaldo Nehemiah in the NFL in his prime, and I'm putting up money too he gets knocked out also on a slant or crossing route.

I don't really follow tennis but I was flipping through the channels and Serena was being interviewed just after beating her opponent in France. She was speaking fluent French. Then I started flipping through channels again and again saw Serena being interviewed in Italy after winning her match. She was speaking in fluent Italian. How does a Black girl from Compton learn how to speak fluent French and Italian? Very impressive.

I had no idea she was that old but now that I think about it she's been around forever. Again, impressive.

Theres a few problems with Gretzky, a couple of players have matched his peak, and the nhl in the 80s was like the nba in the 60s, the game has advanced way more than basketball say from the same period. Also hockey players are only on the ice for around a 3rd of the game. And for someone proclaimed as the G.O.A.T, only 4 Stanley Cups isnt cutting it.

Gretzky weighed 155 pounds and could barely bench 140.

Hockey is worth watching for one reason and one reason only- the fights. It's the only thing that keeps it above the yawnfest that is baseball.

G.O.A.T.

Great for his time but a mental midget, whose stats fell off a cliff in the playoffs and when the league became more competitive in the late 60s.

A basketball player can never be considered the best athlete of all time.  The athleticism of a basketball player is too limited.

All the best athletes in the world are in the NBA.Its well known all the best fast twitch fibre athletes, aka the power in sports, are west african. Its also known all the blacks that showed the best genetics were picked as slaves to take to america, so they could most likely survive the trip and work long hours.

The NBA is the highest paid league in the world, if you are elite at football, basketball or baseball, 9/10 blacks will pick basketball, its the goal of most african americans if they have the ability to make it.Its why the American boxing scene for the heavier weights fell off a cliff in the 00s, once the NBA offered those crazy salaries, there was no doubt where any elite black athlete was going.

Nobody 6'6 or taller is the best athlete.  Athleticism is a combination of strength, speed, endurance, power, balance, technical prowess at highly complex tasks.

A wrestler like Alexander Karelin is way more athletic than any NBA player.  How much money an athlete makes has nothing to do with it.

Bolt as regarded is the perfect sprinting machine.Him and Jordan are both around 6'5, jordan is is 6'4.75 barefoot.NBA players until recently were measured in Sneakers.

Bolts 40yr speed is 4.22, Jordans was in the 4.3s.

Bolt has speed and that's it.  How fast would he run a mile or would he even finish?  An athlete can be tall but it's going to be detrimental overall for most.  Alexander Karelin was a tall athlete that would crush Jordan or Bolt in most categories.

If Karelin and Jordan both did the NFL combine, Karelin would win the bench press test and that would be it, Jordan would smoke him at everything else.Bokt would likely suck at the mile, Jordan could run 10 miles and not break a sweat. His endurance and engine was elite

The NFL combine is very limited.  Tony Gonzalez was a Hall of Fame tight end in the NFL and could have played in the NBA if he chose to go with basketball (he played both at CAL).  How many NBA players could have gone to the NFL instead?  Jordan couldn't even make it in baseball.

Im a white englishman who has played football (soccer) with elite whites, and basketball with elite american blacks, the difference in athletic abilities between the 2 races is very apparent. And yes blacks suck at swimming.

Jordan hadnt played competitive baseball for 17 years when he went to the minors. He was also steadily improving and most experts picked him to make the majors, but the MLB tried to use him in the strike and that was the end of that.
