Arthur Jones changed nothing. He just wanted to sell machines. It didn't make sense to have people sit on them for 5 sets or so- the gyms wouldn't make money that way because there would be no throughput.
I've looked at just about every controlled medical study I can find and there is scant evidence that going to failure helps at all. In fact it triggers cortisol very easily and you decondition waiting for the recovery to finish. The 2-3 warmup sets followed by 2 working sets works as good as anything ever developed. And that's the 5x5 routine Reg park helped popularize.
All of Jones success stories were using guys on PEDS. And Dorian helped usher in the GH era.
