no it's actually bodybuilding related as arthur jones tried to change an industry stuck in old ideals about training for better or worse. sorry to disappoint you.

Although not mentioned much Arthur’s son Gary jones helped design a lot of the nautilus models

Gary went on to start hammer smith and life fitness

Boyer looks pretty much natural there.  He probably wasn't but he does not look "Boyer", if you will.  He really did look to be training hard though.  Good stuff so thank you, sir!

Joe Means who won best legs and most muscular in the 1976 AAU Mr. America trained for a while at Nautilus. They praise him heavily for his work ethic. He said they did one set but it was a triple drop in weight.

Arthur Jones changed nothing. He just wanted to sell machines. It didn't make sense to have people sit on them for 5 sets or so- the gyms wouldn't make money that way because there would be no throughput.

I've looked at just about every controlled medical study I can find and there is scant evidence that going to failure helps at all. In fact it triggers cortisol very easily and you decondition waiting for the recovery to finish. The 2-3 warmup sets followed by 2 working sets works as good as anything ever developed. And that's the 5x5 routine Reg park helped popularize.

All of Jones success stories were using guys on PEDS. And Dorian helped usher in the GH era.

According to Arthur Jones this is all you need to reach your maximum genetic potential

I'm a bit dubious

http://www.arthurjonesexercise.com/Bulletin1/39.PDF

I've tried whole body training and I can never stick with it for more than a few weeks.  I always find myself preferring 8-12 sets per bodypart per workout

BTW - here is one of the thing AJ recommends that is rarely ever mentioned when discussing his theories

This should be done in the performance of sets of at least six full repetitions and not more than twenty
full repetitions; but in all cases, additional partial repetitions should also be performed until a point is
reached where any amount of movement is impossible.

looks totally off there
He was bigger as a teenager

I think I recall reading that AJ lost interest in his training experiment with Boyer when he realized Boyer was getting smaller and weaker each week.

Looks like Boyer was off cycle and getting weaker. Don't get me wrong he looks  in great shape but no where near his steroid stage ready self. I wonder if AJ caught him starting a cycle if he it would have kept his interest as he blew up and gained strength.

This.  Jones was a genius marketer able to convince millions to buy into his bullshit.  How many athletes or just regular people train solely or even partially on Nautilus today?  If his method of training to failure on machines was so good every NFL, NHL, rugby teams as well as all Olympic athletes that use strength and power would be training this way.  None are.

I doubt it or the Dolphins and everyone else would still be using them.
