precontest workout cutoff

I'm in the final week of pre contest mode and will be finished carb depleting after this mornings workout (Wed). I started depleting on Sunday morning and continued working out upper body doing 5 sets per body part for 15-20 reps per "PRE CONTEST BIBLE". I know those guys are using gear so they are able to train a little closer to a show. My question is am hurting myself by doing chest and back this morning before starting to consume 1st meal of carbs? The goal is to use up whatever glycogen that is left right?

Also what amount of carb portions should I be consuming and how often? 5'9 210 (still have about another day and a half of high to moderate water intake. Are simple carbs better to start off with to get them in your system quicker then switch to more complex or vise versa?:P
