Hotel Working Out
« on: April 19, 2006, 06:52:53 AM »
Question: I'm trapped at a hotel in the middle of nowhere for the week on business, not in range of a gym other than the crappy Martriott gym.  There are several cardio machines.  Dumbells only go up to 50.  There's a pully that I can do lat pull downs and curls but can easily max out.  The question is-  which of these courses is most beneficial:

(1) do nothing, giving the muscles their first extended rest in a while, OR

(2) train light with high reps, hoping the "switch up" will be a trigger for further growth, OR

(3) spend a week doiing cardio, trying to keep bodyfat in check given the higher calories which are harder to avoid in travel situations.

Your advice would be appreciated.

If you could use a break and havent had one in a long time, take one.  If however you plan on going on vacation any time soon after that and dont work out on vacation then do some light weight stuff.  I usually use my vacations as a break.  If its for a week.  but if your on business and dont really need a break dont take one.

As mentioned, if you have taken a recent break or are planning one, do something-cardio, higher reps or calisthenics such as chins & pushups, swimming, running,  etc.

Otherwise, enjoy the break.

sometimes if your a "go to the gym no matter what" even if my wife is being buried kind of guy than sometimes a forced layoff to doing nothing but sleep and eat is the best thing for your body. if not try doing something different you would not normally do and work it to the extream. use whatever equipment or bodyweight or other hotel guests and have fun. to many people train like its a sprint and you can't miss a day when really its a marathon and sometimes you run to a different spot just to see something new.

that being said i like the porn and mini bar route if its on the company dime.

I always use these days to do light weight pump workouts or cardio....I can't afford to do nothing with the amount of food/beverage I consume on the company dime ;D

Even if you do train its gonna be like taking time off. You won't get a super intense workout like you usually do so i'd say do whatever it takes to get blood in your muscles just for the sake of doing it. thats what i always do on holidays. every single workout sucks even if im in a super nice gym cuz everything is thrown off. personally i think its better than doing nothing.

Take the week off. Business trips and or seminars  are usually very unpredictable at best. NO use trying to jack in a workout, give your body a mini vacation. Might want to check out the hotel bar or local night life to see what's going on. One of the better three nights of my life was when I stayed in the Omaha/Lincoln area for a seminar. Stayed an extra 2 day's before going home. Good times were had by all. Good Luck.

I've been in similar hotel gyms (db's up to only 50lbs.)...........I do high reps and pre-exhaust on most exercises (example: incline flys supersetted with incline db press).  Its probably best to just take the week off (from weights) and get back to your normal routine after the trip.

Get the local phone book out and look up the escort services.  Look for keywords like "discreet" and "24/7 service"..........if this "workout" is too hardcore for you, just head to the nearest strip club.  Which ever route you go, just make sure you have plenty of drinks.

u could either enjoy a rest week or if do something diffrent like a routine of push ups chin ups and bench dips for upper body and run sprints for legs and do some body wieght calve raises. or if this is a normal occurence make the best of the equipment u have.

lmfao

seriously though, usually when im in hotels and they ahve a shitty weight room, i just take the time off and eat like a pig.

or, there are all sorts of creative ways to turn your room into a 'hardcore' gym...using your night table to do pullovers or curls,  use chairs to do dips, various push-up forms

That's good-you can do benches, rows, curls and deads with the bed!

I used to do something like that while swimming, using the water for resistance. Was fine for maintenance.
